| Politics: Left, Right, and Center National, state, regional, and local politics. Who's doing what to whom, and what you can do about it. How-to-get-action messages are encouraged. "How the government fucked up my life" stories are encouraged. Sharing new methods for cheating on taxes is encouraged. Sample "letters to congresscritters" are encouraged. Apathy and "I can't do anything" posts are discouraged. Left, right, centrist, or any other form of political-economic systems are all up for discussion. Be prepared to defend yourself, or at least have a good line of bullshit ready. Extensive quoting of economists and philosophers is frowned upon. We want to hear what YOU have to say, not what some constipated, impotent, dead guy dreamt up while suffering from the DT's over a hundred years ago thought. |

The Federal Reserve And My Patriotism
I used to be really patriotic about my country (the USA). It is the strongest country, at the time, right now. Although, I can't even be too sure about that anymore, either. It seems to be the most economical and most powerfull country at the time and I had a lot of pride in it.
However, I am just beginning to realize was bollocks that is. I mean, I used to make excuses for the governments flaws, and I still do. I mean, the whole immigration thing, I understand. It's difficult for people to immigrate here because if it was easy millions would come and we'd be forced into another depression. But, what really tipped me off was when I finally came to the realization that the Federal Reserve really isn't Federal at all. It is not a part of the government, but a seperate business that prints out sheets of dollars for 6 cents a sheet and then says that they are worth a certain ammount.
I understood that our money meant nothing. But, now I find that the ammount that our money is determined by an organization that isn't even governmental. We are controlled by some rich guy in an office somewhere and we can't even vote him out of office! How ridiculous is that? That took away the gold standard and all, so our money is empty IOU's but now I find that how much it's worth isn't even an actual monetary value!
At least other countries have money that means something. So, what does that say about my beloved country? Basically, I feel like my government is mooning me from a mirrored window somewhere and laughing about it.
Cheers, Lost

Re: The Federal Reserve And My Patriotism
But your american dollar is worth something. It's worth the faith of the 270 million people in the US. It means that we should save these slips of paper because we can trade them for goods and services. Sure it's a question of faith, but then any currency is and we can't go back to the bartering system, now can we.

Re: The Federal Reserve And My Patriotism
these are both true, i think, but there are many things wrong with our U. S. of H. like the whole myth about there being no classes in our society...and many many more.

Re: The Federal Reserve And My Patriotism
got no love for politicians; or that crazy scene in D.C., it's just a powermad town; i used to trust the media to tell me the truth; but now i see the payoffs everywhere i look; who do you trust when everyone's a crook; i'm tired of all the bullshit they keep selling me on T.V.; about the communist plan; and all the shady preachers begging for my cash; swiss bank accounts while giving their secretary the slam; i guess warhol wasn't wrong; fame fifteen minutes long; i used to think that only america's way was right; but now the holy dollar rules everybody's lives; gotta make a million no matter who dies
queensryche-revolution calling.
didn't care to much for any of their other stuff;
but i think operation:mindcrime was one of the greates albums ever written; and a must have in any collection.

Re: The Federal Reserve And My Patriotism
the federal reserve is under the jurisidiction of the government simply because its in the united states....the fact is that our government has taken a lassiez faire attitude......the fact of the matter is that we dont want or need to bother about the money and just because your government doesnt print their own money doesnt mean you should trust them any less....dont trust them because they monitor your computer use and watch house....simply dislike your government because your money only costs 6 cents a sheet to print...dont trust the government because they hide everything they do and make public the shit nobody cares about.....is your live going to be radically changed because of the proposed nuclear test ban treaty....no....its it going to be changed while the government watches your lives, taps your phones, captures their "terrorists"....
if your gonna disdain the government do it for a real reason....dont just seem like another lost capitalistic driven mind
