| Politics: Left, Right, and Center National, state, regional, and local politics. Who's doing what to whom, and what you can do about it. How-to-get-action messages are encouraged. "How the government fucked up my life" stories are encouraged. Sharing new methods for cheating on taxes is encouraged. Sample "letters to congresscritters" are encouraged. Apathy and "I can't do anything" posts are discouraged. Left, right, centrist, or any other form of political-economic systems are all up for discussion. Be prepared to defend yourself, or at least have a good line of bullshit ready. Extensive quoting of economists and philosophers is frowned upon. Awwwwww Poor Gray Davis
Seems like our Democrat Governor Gray Davis of California is going to ask the Republicans for help to get him and the state out of the energy crisis. Republicans know business! He's meeting with the Republican caucus today at 6:00pm
Any apologies?

Yeah, I'm sorry that some right-wing loser in your state decided to privatize the power system.

Re: Awwwwww Poor Gray Davis
notice this is in california;
environmentalists didn't want more power plants.
what do these people think electricity is abundant.
energy may be abundant; but converting that energy to something that will make a pot of coffee is difficult.
a power plant is like making a turkey.
the fewer individuals you have to feed the farther it will go and more satisified they will be.
the more that come for the feast the more the chances you might have to cook another turkey.
or people will starve.
in this case go without air conditioning in the summer.

Re: Awwwwww Poor Gray Davis
I think I have an idea on how to solve California's energy problems. We take Lokil and we put him in a room filled with immigrants and we give them a transcript of everything Lokil has said on this web-site.
We video-tape the whole affaire and we make millions by selling it on late night tv. With the money, we build enougth power plants to solve California's problems. How about it?

Re: Awwwwww Poor Gray Davis
Who? Wha...? Don't know what you're talking about.
But for your information, we have enough power plants and enough power producing capabilites, this crisis is all superficially created. And Gray Davis is a moron. I can't believe him. Making contracts withpower companies that are sketchy to say the least, giving out California's surplus money...tsk, tsk.
Sad, really. PG&E declared bankruptcy? BUHAHAHAH!!

Not true. De-regulation in 96 paved the way for new plants to be built. It was seen as early as 97. Look at the Gray Davis. One Wednesday he talks to the state with the "I'm your Governor and I'm gonna solve this" type speech and less than 48 hours later PG&E declares bankruptcy. Is that any indication of how disconnected his is about this whole situation? If Davis would have let the natural laws of supply and demand work themselves out, business professors have told me that the prices would go down by themselves in a year or so. But Davis couldn't do that, why? The GIANT jump in prices would kill the Latins and the Blacks, so Davis used California tax money to buy electricity from producers sell it to Edison and now Bankrupt PG&E, cause their credit so so fucking bad to buy it from places other than the state. lol. Davis is in a bad position. A true leftist, not even his base wants to support him. Cause he took money from electricity interests from the right and the left[This message has been edited by Lokil (edited 04-18-2001).]

Re: Awwwwww Poor Gray Davis
PG&E blames its bankruptcy on lawmakers and regulators for passing a 1996 deregulation law that included a rate cap that prevented the company from passing on the full costs of soaring wholesale electricity prices since last May.
