| Politics: Left, Right, and Center National, state, regional, and local politics. Who's doing what to whom, and what you can do about it. How-to-get-action messages are encouraged. "How the government fucked up my life" stories are encouraged. Sharing new methods for cheating on taxes is encouraged. Sample "letters to congresscritters" are encouraged. Apathy and "I can't do anything" posts are discouraged. Left, right, centrist, or any other form of political-economic systems are all up for discussion. Be prepared to defend yourself, or at least have a good line of bullshit ready. Extensive quoting of economists and philosophers is frowned upon. We want to hear what YOU have to say, not what some constipated, impotent, dead guy dreamt up while suffering from the DT's over a hundred years ago thought. |

The UC Regents and Affirmative Action
Myth: Minorities (Actually MAJORITIES in CA, for now...) admissions in the UC system has dropped 50% since they dropped affirmative action in the process.
Fact: Minority admission HAS gone down at UCLA and UC Berkeley. BUT have gone up generally in the UC system.
Come on, people. Those students had to go some where. They went to OTHER UC schools. What is happening is that the students are better matched than they were before. Students that were never meant to go there AREN'T and won't be flunking out.
My question is...Why aren't my asian friends speaking out? Their numbers haven't dropped at all. They are the majority in every UC school except UC Santa Barbara (Whites). That's cause they go to weekend schools and bust their tails. They put aside b'ball with their "doggs" and are more dedicated than Jose Mexico.
News Flash: Being a minority doesn't mean you have to think liberal. You get what you earn.
My grandfather came to this country in the thirties from Austria and when he came to Ellis Island, the fucker at the registration desk couldn't understand his pronunciation of his last name. So, mistakenly, changed our families last name. Still worked hard and got what he worked for. He didn't whine like a little bitch.
Any system that EXCLUDES OTHERS on race is UNFAIR and WRONG.

Re: The UC Regents and Affirmative Action
Side Note: Since the ban on affirmative action was a voter initiative, the UC Regents want to do away with the SAT being considered, heh.
THIS WORLD IS TURNING INTO A JOKE. An "A" in Compton is not an "A" in Huntington Beach. Uniform standards are reasonable, fair, and NECESSARY. We've already discounted the SAT, enough. We even have the ACT and SAT II to counter it.
All men are created equal, let's prove it.

You're saying that BY LAW, the standards of what is taught at public schools in Compton are different than those taught in Huntington Beach?

Re: The UC Regents and Affirmative Action
Ofcourse that shit happens. If they did'nt they would look like they are discriminating against Mexicans which like you said (on average) have little value for education. Plus they are obeying orders from somebody (probably a group of wealthy business men in need of labor with a degree) wants these fuckas out in the workplace.

Re: The UC Regents and Affirmative Action
Spiffy - No, not by law. I was listening to Larry Elder and he told me about the time he visited an inner city school to give a spech on the inportance of education. He was having a conversation with the principal and he decided to introduce Larry to the school top student. When Larry met her she spoke with double nagatives, etc.
Slit your throat bitch - Too late. The Civil Rights package also did away with natural origins immigration.

You mean she speaks, oh my, in slang? *That's* certainly an instant sign somebody is a moron. And who the fuck is Larry Elder?

Re: The UC Regents and Affirmative Action
Spiffy, Larry Elder is a talk show host from Southern California (790 KABC) You won't be able to hear him because he isn't syndicated across the country. He is black, grew up in the South Central section os Los Angeles. A graduate of Brown University and a former partner or member of a VERY pretegious law firm in Illinois.
Like I was saying, he hosts a show from a libertarian p.o.v. and me and my dad bought his book and I even went to get it signed. The Top Ten Things You Can't Say In America Great guy, even greater personality. He does host a show that IS syndicated. Moral Court, the show is called.

Re: The UC Regents and Affirmative Action
It looks like that TV shows offers money if, essentially, you agree with the host.

Re: The UC Regents and Affirmative Action
Yes, Spiffy, because unfortunately when I look around my peers, I look at them and realize that they have no idea what wrong and right is.
The money that the show uses the only motivation that is left in our culture - monetary units.
It used to be that "doing the right thing" was the only motivation that we needed, but since your side has been winning lately, well...we need to use money.
*Gives Spiffy $1000 to not post a reply.*

Re: The UC Regents and Affirmative Action
*gives Lokil the $1000 back*
Don't have a heart attack.
I agree with you.
Too often, people will do what they think is right, but what's "right" will change if a little money is waved at them in compensation.
I, however, am not one of those people. At all. I despise it when people do shit like that. It's not "my side" that's winning anything.
Dude, if I disagree with something you say, I lay my disagreement on you- not all conservatives, not all right-wingers, not all of the people who your posts would put you with if I were to try "grouping" you. At least do me the favor of basing what you think of me on my words, not some view of liberals, atheists, or anyone else as a whole.
