| Network (in)Security Interesting hacks and cracks. Info on firewalls, TCP/IP, encryption, networks, and security. The ins and outs of the phone system, caller services, how things work, what's illegal and what's not, cellular phones, beepers, telephony legislation, the PUC, ISDN, taps, who's listening, and switches. Talking about phones, hacking systems, technical advice, and such is completely LEGAL in the United States -- it's covered by the First Amendment. What's illegal is conspiracy to commit a crime. So if you say something like "Meet me at 2am so we can crack a can" or "I changed my cell phone's number myself" you are criminally liable. Stating "You can crack a can by doing thus-and-so" or "If you wanted to change a cell phone's number, you could do it like so" is perfectly OK. Posting passwords, calling card numbers, or credit card numbers is forbidden on this network. Posting such info will get you booted off the net. |

Re: TI-83 Calculator
Being one of the debuggers for MirageOS I know most all the stupid tricks. And since it is not really computer hacking or anything illegal I don't mind sharing the knowledge. If you have access to the memory menu press 2nd>mem>mem mgmt/del...>all> then find a program which is labled MirageOS and should be about 42 bytes, delete that. After deleting this file your mirage settings should default. To access a memory protected calculator is a bit more tricky. You must trick TI-OS resetting the ram without taking out the batteries. We do this by going to the "TI-OS SelfTest" Press 2nd>Mode>Alpha>S>Enter> After you get into this dialog it shows you a few numbers, slowly increasing; press the ON button a few times and the memory will clear. Now WITHOUT entering Mirage, goto the memory menu and delete the file labled MirageOS (the 42byte one). Then go back to mirage and your settings should be restored.
TI promised a new and improved version of TI-OS which would not clear the memory during the selftest, they have not yet instituted this version of the operating system thank god.

Re: TI-83 Calculator
I love TI calculators. 83+ SE just came out last summer *drools* It actualy allows you to set the processor speed on the Z80 processor while in BASIC programs! No longer an assembaly function!
(Oh and if the above does not work I can give you a program which resets the memory... but I only use it as a last resort.)
