Network (in)Security Interesting hacks and cracks. Info on firewalls, TCP/IP, encryption, networks, and security. The ins and outs of the phone system, caller services, how things work, what's illegal and what's not, cellular phones, beepers, telephony legislation, the PUC, ISDN, taps, who's listening, and switches. Talking about phones, hacking systems, technical advice, and such is completely LEGAL in the United States -- it's covered by the First Amendment. What's illegal is conspiracy to commit a crime. So if you say something like "Meet me at 2am so we can crack a can" or "I changed my cell phone's number myself" you are criminally liable. Stating "You can crack a can by doing thus-and-so" or "If you wanted to change a cell phone's number, you could do it like so" is perfectly OK. Posting passwords, calling card numbers, or credit card numbers is forbidden on this network. Posting such info will get you booted off the net.

That's what they have at my school. So I just went into My Computer, found it, and deleted it. I think it was something that kept the filter on because it was off and when I came back the next day it was back on...it was called something like: wasefil.dll

Log on as someone else (preferably the administrator or someone who can get to what you want) and don't get caught. You WILL be banned, I speak from experience.

Login to Novell
Open up Internet Explorer
Type Control Panel in the address bar.
I think you can get it from there
Also I fucked up my school bad, i didn't get caught though. I connected to all the servers and deleted everything on them. Teachers and admins were shocked.

hmm, right, and what servers would these be? and what did you do it for? give us a whitepaper and a motive, otherwise you will be flamed.

Override, try not to make a flame war out of everything. And for the rest of you, just find the damn password. Its easy enough, watch the teacher put the password in, memorize it, use it.

first i have tried to go threw the internet explorer to control panal and that works but i still cant get past internet options to change any settings.

And my teachers have the same gay accounts as the kids so no teacher can change it other than our com lab teacher who has his own room with his own computer.

I think the internet options is blocked not by signin name but some where on the computer its self.

I know a way around it but I can't be bothered explaining at the moment, plus I'll have to upload something, so I'll do it later.

BASICALLY: It's blocked through policy files- there are several ways of getting round this. Modify the policy files on the server so that you can do what you want, or modify the registry after you've logged on so that you reverse what the policy files have done. I created a registry file (regedit is disabled) so that to get to DOS and other naughty guff like that (e.g. control panel) i just have to run it. It's text, too, so you'll be able to get it when I can be bothered uploading it.

(this keyboard is gnarly)

all you have to do to fux the computer up is download a virus to a disk and put it in the computer...i have no experince with this but i think viruses are made to get around security...so unless they have a good virus scanner (at my school i can just turn it off) it should fux there computer

most schools security sux, my school has 8 tec ppl working on them all day every day and i can get around there security, i dont evean know any programing or that shit, just mess around for a while

another idia...
in study hall go to a computer the teacher cant see ez and start typeing sompthin, after 2 paragraphs leav it open but do whatever you want in the background (this way if the teacher comes over you rnt screwed)
good luck

All "security" for networked computers is crap in my opinion. If you root around a little (no i don't mean get the admin password) then you can come up with some good results. Such as- i once worked at a solicitors agency. They had 30 computers on a network and it was thought to be solid. After a couple of days i found a simple route to get into the harddrive file (c: in that case) and also a way to browse the other computer's harddisks. To get to c: in explorer was really easy. I just went to start- programs and double clicked on "accessories" this opened up an explorer window and then i just pressed the "Up" button until i got to c: then a simply roamed a little and with the same technique i got into the network files. It was surprisingly easy.

Chunkmiester
Use your head- its easy for people with common sense

I found however protected things were on the school network, to get access to any drive just open an email, hit attachements and browse around. Or if you say go to word and go : file, open. Then you can go through all drives etc.
If you wanna get around a filter look in google for "anonymous surfing" and you'll find tons of sites you can use.

The easiest way I found when I went 2 skool 2 get past blocks (based on novell) was 2 simply use a bootdisk get past all those nasty novell loading commands or if a bootdisk wasnt an option simply bootup normally get in2 dos type debug 71 17 or debug 17 71 one of those 2 which will flash the bios memory so then you can reboot press delete get in2 the bios settings change settings 2 boot from a bootdisk. OKAY FIRST STEP. step2. now that you have full control of the machine and there is no rules as such you can get in2 the registry and change everything from there. You may not have admin rights ova the whole network but ahh its good enough.

Why not bring a laptop to school with all of the internet settings formed up to work with your schools internet/network settings. Then when no one is watching unplug the ethernet plug from the school computer and into yours or bring one and attach the ends to bothe computers. Usually you can use Windows choppy nework settups to your advantage being that each computer is told what it can and cannot access on each praticualr computer, but with the introduction of a new computer that has no preset limits on access then you can often gain access to the entire server. Or if you connect to the computer owned by the school you could simply tell that computer that your laptop is the server it is supposed to be connected to. Buy a PCI card with ethernet and you can do both. If you worry about being caught make sure you have all the files/folders that you need/use in you school hacking venture on your laptop in one folder and have that backed up ona floppy at home or whatever and then write a Java or Visual Basic program to move the folder with to some random location such as in the many intricasys of a RPG with its files decompressed into a file path more complex than the LA freeway system.
Often hiding is better that deleting becaue we al kno that few things are completely deleted and in no case done so in the few seconds that you would have.

Download a new copy of IE5 or copy one of a CD-R into some strange file such as the sound input control panel folder and often the internet controls will not apply to the new application. If the controls are setup by the network you have another can of worms of problems.

This isn't exactly about getting past the net nanny's but it is helpful. This is really helpful if you want to hide what you are doing when a teacher comes looking rather than shutting it. The days used to be when you could just press Alt - Tab and noone would be the wiser but teachers have cottoned on so ahve a look at this little program. It hides your windows doesn't show them on the toolbar or anything. Just press F10 to bring them back.http://www.vbcity.com/pubs/article.asp?alias=magicwindows

My school has one of those stupid blocks too.......
I took a different way of getting past it....

because i know a fair amount of scripting i made a few scripts (2 registary fies one batch file) the first registary file was to enable or disabled control panel and all that stuff. the second was to install a key in the run thing. (i needed control panel to change a few colours in windows so that the admin would log in - to try and fix them)

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]

that would start the batch file when ever some one logged on......
the batch file was very simple it was just a code to copy the .PWL file away from the windows folder when some one logged in so theat it wouldnt get deleted.....the school has several scripts as well.....

@Echo Off
cls
cd..
cd..
cd windows
copy benjamin.pwl gotit.txt
cls

thats the bat (the admins login was benjamin
when i got the file i just renamed gotit.txt back to benjamin.pwl and used CAIN to get the password....thereby giving me the admins password...........

well it isnt really that simple is it?

batch files are one of the most useful things on windows boxes.

BESS:
try changing the proxy settings in the browser to direct connectio to the internet, or just uncheck the proxy box (in IE)

that probably wont work because most admins are smarter than that.

Net Nanny:
CTRL+alt+delete
close nntray.exe
close nnservice
browse net

any other client-side blockers:
repear above steps with any programs you want to close

if your on a mac (my school uses primarily macs):
if your school uses mac manager (the one with 'panels' go to the apple menu. if sherlock or file find is available, click it. If you want to connect to other file servers at school, search for chooser, and open the chooser up. if you want the finder, search for finder. repeat steps for other wanted progs. if this doesnt work, your admin is smarter than the average bear.

all i can remember now.
hope this helps. censorship sucks.

If your teachers have admin rights, you could download xlog or some keylogging thing, log on to your user, then start kelogging...log off, then when the teacher comes on you can get her password...but probably not her login password, just her internet one.

Do you know what a .pwl file is? its a password list file (its where windows stores all your saved passwords) the reason i stole this is at my school the login passwords are the same as the internet ones.
This worked for me(allthough the admin found out a week later when he realised that he was logging on when he wasnt even at school).

It uses brute force to get them.

You can get Cain from www.geocities.com/men_from_mars_2000/crack.html They also have other shit too.
You should download it at home & ues it at school. It works best if you burn it to a CD with a CD burner.

I have a few probs with my school network.
I can gain access to the C: drive easy, the head computer guy of the network says that pages are blocked because they use a special ISP that automatically blocks certain words, how can I work around that?

Also on the netowrk are all the School intranet webpages and the like, for every account theres the P: drive, which contains all that users work and downloads whatever, and theres the Network, which whenever you try to alter files it just says "You do not have access to these files".

How can I gain access without using an admin account? I know there is a way. Also the floppy drives are blocked.

To get to floppy drives on most school networks:

1.Go into MS Word (or any program that will let you get to the C: drive)

2.Click open (or save as, whatever you need to go to)

3. Find a shortcut (that you dont use) anywhere on any of the drives you have access to

4. Right click on the shortcut and click properties. Change the target from <the drive listed> to a:

6. Using the shortcut you have access to the a: drive!

Granted, you can only use this if you have permissions to modify shortcuts/files.

* Tested on a machine running Windows 98 (with Novell Client software) Network also using ZENWorks for desktops

NetWare do not run on Windows98. It run over DOS on a server. The client software is simply called the Novell Client.

Much the the hiding of drives, is done through windows registry hacks, not necessarily that have anything to do with Novell. If Novell software is manipulating the desktop, etc. then the network is using Novell ZENWorks for Desktops.

187, that site doesn't work, all the links are broken. Anyhow- whoever said above about getting access to a:, at work they block access to drives (you type in a: or u: etc it comes up with "access denied by admin"). All you have to do is goto start, programs and then double click on accessories. In the window that comes up use the drop down icon in the address bar and select whatever drive you want access to.

im gonna give my 2 cents here because not only am i a student who has been in the same position as many of you in the past i now am a network tech at school with admin privledges. at our school we use what is probably the most effective security program used. the programe is fortres grand console or FGC for short. the reason this program is so effective is because once admin finds a loop hole he/she can write a custome script to fix it. the solution i am about to sugest will work for any program however you must have the installation cd for the operating system your useing.

if your lucky and your net admin is stupid go to step 5 first

1.first hold del when booting computer to enter cmos settings. if your net admin is smart he/she will have set a cmos pass word. to get around this you will need to unplug the computer and open the case.locate the cmos battery(its a small silver disc) use a screw driver to pop it out. wait 10 seconds then reinstall the battery. replace cover and restart go to cmos and tell it to boot from cd-rom
2.restart computer with the os disc in the drive. it will ask if you want to boot from hd or cd choose cd. follow instructions and install os
3.THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP after os installation go back to cmos set up and choose boot from network.(otherwise youll never conect to the network)
4.if at all possible try not to log on the fisrt time with your username. first try things like (u=tech p=tech)(u=admin p=1234) (u=test p=test)
5.now its time to collect some info. go to network neighborhood and look for 2 thingsthe proxy which lets say your school is called bull shit high shcool will look like BSHS-PROXY. now go so internet explorer options go to connection and click on LAN settings. change it from the schools proxy to the school districts proxy which would be ****-PROXY. ther may be a few sites blocked but not as many due to the fact that most blocking is done within the shcool you have now bypassed your schools administrator.

hey, we've got a really secure network, BUT, the forgot a few things
batch files, we can acces the C:\ with it,
use things as edit and that stuff, the batch files are automatically closed after running, so we had to enclose a pause
(this was said before but i did like to say it again)
another nice fuck up trick: run a batch file with just one line on the main server:
@echo off
netstop
pause
if i'm right this will stop ALL network connections with that server :->

the correct syntax would have a space in between net and stop:

code:
@echo off
net stop
pause

However, executing the batch file on a server machine is not quite as trivial as it may sound. If you place the batch file on the server (in a share for instance) and run it from your workstation, it will execute the commands ON YOUR WORKSTATION, not the server. Thus effectively stopping network services on your machine if you have sufficient rights to do so.

You need to be remote admin-ing the server through any available means... and that as well, is not trivial. And on top of that, you need rights ON THE SERVER to administratively take down the network interfaces, not just any user is "allowed" to do that. A domain administrator account would be sufficient for this task in NT but it gets more complex in 2000 with ADS.

Its not just as easy as running a batch file, if it was, script kiddies would rule the world. Thank lucifer, they don't.

I believe someone touched on this a little already, but if you cant open the start menu or My Computer they probably have Fortress (thats wat my school has). Just open somehting like Internet Explorer or Microsoft Word, press [Ctrl] + O then click on Browse, and yur in My Computer. It's that easy. BTW, I found some porn on my Algebra teacher's pc (he wasnt in the room).

Our skool also blocks internet sites.
They run Windows XP Pro and someone mentioned Novell ZENworks rings a bell. I have looked at the program manger window and there is nothing there, also I have changed a few registry settings and it seems the majority of them are overidden by network wide settings.
We have access to floppy drives, but not CD Drives.

Does anyone have any ideas for getting round the block?

novell will override local registry settings. My dads laptop uses it for his work.

try the internet explorer method, see if you can get into dos, try ctrl+alt+deltete closing, etc. stupid things like net nanny will die easily.

Bring a bootdisk from home. if the bios is locked and you cant set it to boot from floppy, do this.
If you can get physical access for a few minutes with no one around, open up the box, find a round batery, like the kind that go in laser pointer, on the motherboard. it is bigger then the laser pointer variety though. Take this out, let the computer sit for a moment, put it back in, turn it on, the bios should reset. Now use your boot disk.

I don't know a lot about computers, but with the little I know i've found out how to get into the C: All I do is go into Microsoft Word, go to open, go up and I can get into anything I want. Is there anything neat I can do in the school's C:? Anything cool files I could mess with?

the easiest thing to do is log into safe mode and then go to control panel then find whatever you think is blocking you. at my school its called bess and it was hella easy. to get into safe mode restart your comp and when its loading tap F8 a whole bunch and then youll figure it out from there
