| Network (in)Security Interesting hacks and cracks. Info on firewalls, TCP/IP, encryption, networks, and security. The ins and outs of the phone system, caller services, how things work, what's illegal and what's not, cellular phones, beepers, telephony legislation, the PUC, ISDN, taps, who's listening, and switches. Talking about phones, hacking systems, technical advice, and such is completely LEGAL in the United States -- it's covered by the First Amendment. What's illegal is conspiracy to commit a crime. So if you say something like "Meet me at 2am so we can crack a can" or "I changed my cell phone's number myself" you are criminally liable. Stating "You can crack a can by doing thus-and-so" or "If you wanted to change a cell phone's number, you could do it like so" is perfectly OK. Posting passwords, calling card numbers, or credit card numbers is forbidden on this network. Posting such info will get you booted off the net. |

That is not sad at all, the sad thing is that you are using other people's programs to do your work, what is even sadder is that you are doing such work in the first place. Did you even try a search engine? Why would we help you hack anyway?

Re: i need a decent port scanner and packet sniffer and tcp-transmitter for 9x
Here is a link with most of the stuff you want, but just to make it tough on you, it's in french. http://www.gratuiciel.com/freeware/pc/i3.htm
Use google.com and type in:
+"port scanner" +Windows -linux
and
+"packet sniffer" +Windows -linux
and
+"packet builder" +Windows -linux
or variants of those searches (keep in mind I have not tried them in that exact form). If you can't search on google yourself, then you are too stupid to even use those programs.
Rafale - packet builder Ethereal - packet sniffer GFI LanGuard - multi tool port scanner + other stuff.
NOW BE GONE! hehe

Down boy! Seriously, chill out. First off, he hasn't asked how to crack anything, and there's no indication that he plans to do anything nasty. Secondly, a portscanner is just a tool. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using a tool that someone else crafted. It's not some hack-in-a-box like subseven. What if I said that you couldn't use netcat?

Re: i need a decent port scanner and packet sniffer and tcp-transmitter for 9x
then i would say who cares? nc isnt the end all be all of security. its convenient since it can perform most basic networking tasks but its not the only tool. i personally dont use netcat and i get along just fine. i prefer to use multiple specialized tools rather than netcat.
and another thing, there is nothing wrong with using windows. i think windows is way better than linux for footprinting and enumerating. there are way more quality scanners and netbios crackers for windows than linux or unix. plus some people may flame me for this but i do apreciate the ease of use in many GUI scanners.
try using tools like sam spade and GFI langaurd scanner and tell me windows is useless. not only is it on par with linux in the tool arena but i thin it is better for some tasks.
as for the original question, what makes you think you can competently use these tools if you cant even find them? its like people who ask how to get IP's. if you cant get that then you surely cant hack anything

Re: i need a decent port scanner and packet sniffer and tcp-transmitter for 9x
I believe its all a matter of preference syphon. If you like windows then use it. If you like linux, same goes, use it. As long as you can do what you want in a fashion that allows you to be productive.
I found some very awesome netbios scanners for linux. One in particular that is command line based. It would scan your subnet and automaticaly mount all open shares. Thats pretty sweet.
Also, don't forget many of the "tools" for windows are simply built upon ports of the unix/linux tools and libraries. Many programs are now being built on libpcap and libnet ported libraries, although, a given, more are built on winsock API calls.
All I really want to say is its preferrence and I'll just argue that linux is far more capable than windows for many "hacking" tasks.

Re: i need a decent port scanner and packet sniffer and tcp-transmitter for 9x
jeez, no need to have a phish. the reason i use 98 is because no games run on linux (or very few, i know that there is a quake for linux). i know that for what i like doing linux/unix is far superior, but i can't be screwed dual-booting when i KNOW it is possible to do on windows. as for why- i want to learn! no hacking, just plain learning. plus if i knew how to, i would have simply written my own tool, rather than making a lot of people irate about the whole affair. i have looked, seriously, but i (so far) haven't found anything worthy of my attention. hopefully this will change with your help plus, another reason i don't write my own is i have squat-all time to write it

Re: i need a decent port scanner and packet sniffer and tcp-transmitter for 9x
the reason for the abundance of tools for windows is because of the abundance of users of windows, and the ease of everything (in general) on windows. i believe that windows what windows gains in user-friendlyness it loses in power and stability, and also on the latest incarnations of windows (which i hate to buggery) the user friendly part yakes over and makes the whole experience rather threatening to your open minded computer nerd. personally, i would prefer to use linux if i didn't play games assembly is cool

Re: i need a decent port scanner and packet sniffer and tcp-transmitter for 9x
several final notes:
it doesn't matter what os it is, even if it's microsoft, a lot of hard work has gone into them, and they're better than anything me or you alone could concoct in one night.
my computer sounds like it has a frog in it. perhaps i should check.
if consequences dictate my course of action then it it doesn't matter what's right it's only wrong if you get caught if consequences dictate my course of action then i i should play god and just SHOOT YOU MYSELF!!!!!!!
(recognise the quote anyone?)

Re: i need a decent port scanner and packet sniffer and tcp-transmitter for 9x
well first off windows is by no means not powerfull but the politics of software and API's hold it back from being all it can be. second of the stability is not an issue when comparing to linux. windows 2k is more stable than linux with x and a WM for desktop use. however linux is far more stable in the server enviorment if you use no GUI. stability is a non issue now with windows since we have 2k.
personally i do prefer linux but windows still has it place, just not in my cost account. if i get it for free ill use it, otherwise forget it because its not worth the money they want.
the true strength of linux is its freedom and greater user controll. the politics of GNU versus M$ proprietary licenses is enough to make me prefer linux and use as much as possible. even if window swas the most wonderfull OS ever made and beat linux in every aspect i would still not use it exclusivly or ever pay for it because i have a moral problem with their policies. i know at this point im off topic and ranting so ill just end it here....

gnool, i'm not even going to dignify that with a response
yes, he's joking, trust me, he knows that assembly owns, just he refuses to admit it. a while ago when i still used c/c++ (dreadful language, assembly is easier in my opinion) we always used to argue over which is better.
but one day i forced him to send me a poor vb prog, and i disassembled it. it was just a whole tone of data and a dll call or 2! how poor
kind of off the original topic a bit, hey? maybe we should start a new post
