Iv got a porn homepage and i cant get rid of it iv tried resetting homepage and deleting cookies etc

but every time i reeboot it reapears as my homepage

anyone seen this before or know how to get rid of it

open internet explorer, goto tools, internet options, type in www.yahoo.com in the box called "homepage"... but serioulsy why look at porn if you cant cover up for it?

heh, its happend to me before..did you download any programs when doing this because i had a prog that would change my homepage and put links and shit on my favorites....check for a prog even if you think you didnt download any thing cuz porn sites are getting tricky with downloading shit to yer comp w/o you knowing it...thn just delete the prog nd all of the copies of it(yes..they can multiply by themselves)

any idea were Ill find it

get a registry cleaner. also get ad-aware. if theres any spyware this thing will clean it out.

get ScriptDefender from analogx.com to avoid dangerous scripts.

I think that is called a 'JS Exploit' and I think there are patches (sort of) to this vulnerability in Windows at the update site. A good anti-virus program should fix it or at least let you know where the file is so you can delete it. Might be in temporary internet files.

You might want to search files and folders for 'dialer' and look for porn dialers as you may have one of those programs along with the JS exploit. (just a guess)

I would suggest start\programs\accessories\system tools\disk clean up. which will supposedly clean up your temp. internet files. (sort of). That might get rid of the JS exploit.

I think you have to get rid of that before you can effectively change your home page.

You should run a free version of Zone Alarm so those 900 number phone dialers will get blocked from dialing out and running up thousands of dollars in phone bills on your phone.

Oh, don't delete the 'dialers' that are supposed to be there.

This happens when you reboot you rcomputer or just internet explorer? If its explorer, check with control alt delete that you dont have any supicious programs running (IE: get rid of any one other than explorer and systray.)

If (before you reboot your comp), can open explorer and set the page, and then restart explorer, go to ur home and its the one you set, then you need to change what programs boot on startup.

This can be done by going to run and typing "msconfig" go to the startup tab and uncheck anything that looks suspicious. Then reboot and see if your problem is fixed.

That should do it.


If none of that works I reccomend housecall, a free online virus scanner, it has a good chance of catching the culprit. It can be found here: http://housecall.antivirus.com

That should help. If it doesn't, then somone resonably talented made that program, and you may be better off reinstalling or calling MS tech support about it.

They suggested ZoneAlarm above, good idea, run that too as soon as ur fixed.

There are viruses that do that. Some are so bad they change everything to porn, (Cursor, background, screensaver, etc.......)

disable VB scripts in internet explorer.

Unfortunately there are always scumbags out there that try to screw people as bad as they can. In this case it was someone installing some script to change people's bookmarks. It all prospers on a bug in Microsoft's Virtual Machine. It seems many people do not have the latest security patches installed. I HIGHLY SUGGEST YOU INSTALL THOSE!!! THEY'LL SAVE A LOT OF PROBLEMS!!! Get 'em at MicroSoft.com
Do you have your homepage changed to cool-xxx.net? Here's the fix:


1. Delete WINSYS.VBS (.VBA) from windows directory
2. Delete WIN0.TXT and WIN1.TXT from windows directory
3. Set correct home/search/etc pages (an easy way is ?restore defaults? and then setting the preferred homepage)
4. Run MSCONFIG (on non-2000 boxes) and remove WINSYS.VBA from the Startup tab
5. Reboot

Serves you right for using IE.
