Network (in)Security Interesting hacks and cracks. Info on firewalls, TCP/IP, encryption, networks, and security. The ins and outs of the phone system, caller services, how things work, what's illegal and what's not, cellular phones, beepers, telephony legislation, the PUC, ISDN, taps, who's listening, and switches. Talking about phones, hacking systems, technical advice, and such is completely LEGAL in the United States -- it's covered by the First Amendment. What's illegal is conspiracy to commit a crime. So if you say something like "Meet me at 2am so we can crack a can" or "I changed my cell phone's number myself" you are criminally liable. Stating "You can crack a can by doing thus-and-so" or "If you wanted to change a cell phone's number, you could do it like so" is perfectly OK. Posting passwords, calling card numbers, or credit card numbers is forbidden on this network. Posting such info will get you booted off the net.

Default How sad is Win Nuke

So for those of you who don't know nuking is without getting into silly hacker symantics, a packet of a data constructed with the intention of sending it to a another computer and crashing it.

This is a form of Denial of Service or DoS is attack on someone's system or systems with the intent of shutting them down. All nukes fall into this category as well as simple packet flooding. In the United States, Denial of Service is a crime under Title 18.

Now this would be fine except that the nuke was coded up into an app which can be downloaded from any of nilistic fav links.
Nukeing is sad, anyone can do it. Its sad and strictly for the kids.

So since #totse on slashnet has lots of people hwo think this make them hackers you need something to stop them.
Its called to NukeNabber and since in doing it they will reveal their IP unless they do something a bit clever, thats clever for them, its just another script but its harder to use, you can report them to their ISP.

I took all the above information for the most part from the puppet cause I'm lazy and couldn't be bothered to retype it and he writes better than me any how.

You can see all this and get the software on his site at http://www.dynamsol.com/puppet/nukenabber.html

The low level link to this site is here

Lets just be very clear on this. ITS VERY SAD.

Nuking is for script kiddies...
In my opinion a good firewall should do the same work as Nukenabber. It logs the attackers ip, the local port and the time, so you get all data you need...
Besides most pcs are patched against the old nukes like OOB and newer ones are harder too get! Most script kiddies arent able to build their own ip packets or to use exploits; they need little tools like Meliksah.
Let them find out themselves that the 'cool' proggies from '97 they downloaded arent able to crash any pc! If they think it is funny to send senseless data to netbios, then let them.
The most of nihils proggies arent even able to crash Win98; they only produce long log files and lot of complaints to his ISP...
He should find out himself how lame nuking is!

CyBeRNoS: Normally I agree with you but I really did feel that some people on this board should make the point.
nilo makes a lot of noise and I for one an begining to lose the signal, I was partly striking a blow for the s/n ratio and partly have a dig at nilo that was founded more in reality than most of my disagreements with him.
Of course you right about the firewalls/patches but it doesn't make the same point, the linked site says the same thing as well near enough.

I agree!
The attitude of some people here is really sad! They must not pass it to newbees which only want to learn...
They should go to other places like Nihils cyberarmy... There are enough kiddies waiting for their help...

You have never learnt something isn't it.
newbie shouldn't exist. right?

so you can only talk to people who know the same as you.

how sad.
for you

i hope you will get in to problems with that.

Here we go again, posting to my own thread again. Thats sad.

However I have to say derby, YOU missed the whole of CyBeRNoS' point.

Newbies must be taught morals, lore, and religion. And no I didn't mention one think there that isn't vital to the difference between a script kiddie and a hacker.

Thanks Kameron! I understand you!

@derby: It is the opposite situation!

Im still learning each new day. When i was a seven year old child i started to deal with computers. At that time i recognized how interesting it is to explore their possibilities. Then i occupied myself with different pcs, operating systems, programs and programming languages for eleven years. I never had much money, so i could only effort older equipment without internet access, but i learned how to get as much out of it as possible. Then i got a nice job as a programmer and got much more familiar with programming. One year ago i was finally able to buy a new system with internet access. At this point i was not very familiar with networking and hacking. I setted up Linux as second OS and began to read as many files as i could about Linux, tcp/ip and networking stuff, to figure out how it works. I became concerned about my security and privacy so i started to read about hacking, firewalls, proxys, trojans and exploits. I want to know how stuff works and how to cover myself against attacks. My intention is not to be able to nuke dummys on IRC for proving others how cool i am! I want to figure out how the security holes work and how to fix them.

Im taking almost everyone serious regardless of whether he knows less then me or has a different attitude and i am willing to share my knowledge, but i agree to Kameron that it is sad how wannabe-crackers try to prove themselves by nuking stupid users that arent even able to set up a personal firewall. In my opinion they can do what they want, but I dont want to support this attitude...

PS:Good laugh!

But it can't be so that you must learn all your self.

I'll will get to this later.

no i must learn myself, but give me a point to start with.

How do i begin. I was ggod with the comp when i was young. i had an atari. but i never figured how to chance or alter the ops. No i still don't know. and i don't know where i can learn. If you want to tune your car by injecting more feul. Do you know how to get it done, yourself.

Please give me an answer.

I think you will say you don't know where to start.

Thats what bothers me when i want to learn to hack.

When i post a question Every one says they don't want to answer because I'M A NEWBIE.

it just isn't fair.

Thats what i like about nihilistic. Hey gives me something concrete.

Where to start depends on what you want to learn! You have to ask concrete questions to get concrete answers. You have to know what you want to do, before you can learn how to do it!

If you want to know how to use different operating systems, you must learn how they are organized on your system. You must know how to partitionate your hard disk and how to install them. Then you should learn their common commands.

If you want to protect yourself or hack someone else over the internet, then you have to understand its basics. You have to know TCP/IP, its different protocols and their ports.
All cool proggies together cannot help you, if you dont understand their output and the way they work.
If you dont know what it means if port 23 is open then even the best scanner wont help you.
How to hack a computer depends on its os, the running daemons, their versions...

If you havent something concrete to ask then I cannot help you. How shall i know, what you want to know, if you dont know it yourself?

If you have something concrete, the best place to start is a search engine! There are files to almost every topic, you could be interested in, out there. If you arent able to find anything on it, then ask detailed questions. I cannot help you if i dont know what you want.

Without aims, you wont reach anything. You dont learn anything without practice, so start any project. Learning by doing!

alright.

it's right to ask concrete question if you want to get an satisfying answer. but as a newbie is quite hard to ask concrete questions. and besides that most people in here feeling to good to answer a question.

and yes I have to learn myself.

But I even don't know what hacking is, what is the basic, where to start from.

I can get on a site and I can get ip addresses. but then what???

It depends again on your aims!
But a better point to start hacking would be protecting yourself against attacks. You will learn a lot of basics through dealing with Security!
Do you have a firewall? Do you know how it works? Did you ever read files about networking and tcp/ip? You are from the Netherlands? If you speak some german you should visit Bavariantommy! Its a good german security site with lots of infos and downloads.
If you wish to learn more about the basics of the internet, you should read some of the Request for Comments files under www.rfc.net or look into &totses hack section. There are tons of files! Ever looked into it?

In my opinion you will get satisfying answers if you ask concrete questions, which havent allready been answered.

Here's a general rule of thumb:

If you wish to know something, use a search engine. If you can't find what you're looking for on there, you may want to look on TOTSE- some of the stuff may be outdated, or downright wrong, but not all of it. Search engines are the one of the greatest tools the internet has to offer, and even if all of us we're bursting with helpful vibes and willing to show you all the things we know and all the sites you can learn from, you likely could still find something we don't know or know about by searching yourself.

If you can't find your answers that way, ask us. Part of the reason to go through that step is so you can say, "I checked some sites (names help too) and I found out this, this, and this, but I need to know that," and ask what you need to ask. It's not hard, but it helps those who can help you by doing two things- 1) it shows you did some footwork of your own, and you're not just a "feed me info" twit; and 2) it narrows down what those reading your post have to tell you by pointing directly to where the gaps in your knowledge lie.

Yeah, "teach me how to be a hacker" isn't a very good question to ask.. Too general, too huge, to open to misinterpretation and dissapointment.

For example, if you asked why on earth you'd ever want to learn perl, I'd be able to answer that. I could tell you what it's useful for, why it totally rocks, and all kinds of other things. If you said "What language should I learn", well, how the hell would I answer that? There are hundreds of programming languages, all overlap a little, but most are designed to work best for one specific purpose.

so if i understand good.

-i should be working on security.
-learn a prog. language.
-and read some good stuff.

And if i don't understand the stuff i read i should ask a question.

can't be that hard. Do you know if there are some good books in dutch. And what kind of books, security, networking, proggramming?

'fraid I can't help you with the dutch but the first books you'll be looking for with be in the Computer science section of any reasonably large book store and you should own the books for any part of the subject that your really interested in but first you should punch beginers guide (+ subject) in to a search engine. People have written most stuff down so you just have to sellect some thing at your entry level.

About the programming.
You need to know a few languages in the end.
But you need to start somewhere.
I started with Qbasic but that was in the dim and distance past. I don't know what is best to start on now. Any one have any ideas?

Then you need C not because its useful, but cause you need some grounding is syntax to understand psuedo-code.

You might consider Perl, i found that really easy.

You might want to try online booksellers as well, like www.barnesandnoble.com or www.amazon.com.
