| Network (in)Security Interesting hacks and cracks. Info on firewalls, TCP/IP, encryption, networks, and security. The ins and outs of the phone system, caller services, how things work, what's illegal and what's not, cellular phones, beepers, telephony legislation, the PUC, ISDN, taps, who's listening, and switches. Talking about phones, hacking systems, technical advice, and such is completely LEGAL in the United States -- it's covered by the First Amendment. What's illegal is conspiracy to commit a crime. So if you say something like "Meet me at 2am so we can crack a can" or "I changed my cell phone's number myself" you are criminally liable. Stating "You can crack a can by doing thus-and-so" or "If you wanted to change a cell phone's number, you could do it like so" is perfectly OK. Posting passwords, calling card numbers, or credit card numbers is forbidden on this network. Posting such info will get you booted off the net. |

School Network
Hi guys, I am new here and just needed some info.
At my school all our computers are networked and most of the features have been disabled. I wanted to know how to re-enable them again, I can not get into regedit AT ALL, I have tried everything I mean you can not even create shortcuts for god's sake!
There is no RUN, no access to C:\, no regedit, IExplore can not brouse locally stored files. They have even just removed the interschool e-mail system! THEY SUCK ASS!
I want to know if there are any ways to make these computers USEABLE in any way, thanks in advance.
Violent Impulses.

Re: School Network
bring a screwdriver to school open up as many computers as possible. when you look in you should see a big card thingy with a bunch a stuff on it thats the motherboard. yank it out, wrap it up, and put it in your backpack walk away nonchalantly. thats the best use you'll get out of those pos's

Re: School Network
Actually I'd salvage the hard drive, CD-ROM drive, floppy drive, mouse, keyboard, moniter.... Just come with two empty backbacks and put the computer in one and moniter/other stuff int the other...
Also bring a crowbar you'd be suprised what it takes to open some of those things.. not to mention protecting yourself from evil librarians or computer lab staff...

Re: School Network
No, seriously guys I need to know how to make these fucking comps useable. Do you guys know any alternative methods of opening regedit or anything like that?
PS The OS is Microsoft Windows 95 and the protection is that the fucking admin has disabled everything!
If you like I could try and get you the network's IP.

Re: School Network
Win9x doesn't have any built in security features like that man, find out what security program their running, look in the traybar, and in the task list if you can ctrl-alt-del

Re: School Network
What I think they have done is that they have disabled half of the stuff with regedit.
I can CTRL+ALT+DEL but we are not back at school until next tuesday (which is also when I have my next IT lesson.)
Thanks for the replies, the ones about nicking everything were funny as hell.

Re: School Network
easy start up the comp into safe mode and disable the security program then reboot or what used to work is to pull out the network cable and the security program will not even load if these dont work i have some more ideas

Re: School Network
If they are running some sort of security program goto Help(that shouldn't be disabled) and type in add/remove programs which will give you that little short cut arrow to click on and get to add/remove screen and if u see the program there, delete it.

Re: School Network
you know i've been here for awhile and in here the thing you all seem to talk about the most (at least lately) is enabling school computers and i just have to ask, why do you want to mess with it? seems like a lot of trouble for not much payoff. what do you need to do on the school computer that is not allowed? do you just want to do it for the sake of doing it? ..maybe its a silly question.
but anyways regediting will be disabled by the admin even if you can get to it. safe mode, add/remove sounds good if you can guess what the security program is. just hope you can get into safemode. (you can hold down shift while you click on restart.)
but if theres a prog. i need to get to ..may seem like a stupid trick and i'm not sure what systems it'll work on but you can restart the computer and before you login you can hit the winlogokey (theres should be another shortcut key for it but i just forgot what it was) and it brings up taskmaster then hit runapplication browse and it'll open up to everything.
where are you planning to do all this though? library, computer lab? what are you going to do when the school offical comes up behind you and says "what do you think you are doing?"
i'm just really curious why do you wan't the security gone? to do what? if its not that bad maybe you could just ask. or wait till you get home.
sorry for the rant just wanted to say good luck.

Re: School Network
You might try making a DOS boot disk and using it to boot the computer (I think the command would be something like "format a: /s" to make the disk from DOS) and clearing out whatever files you want, or just formatting the whole damn hard drive.
Sigh, I remember when I thought Windows was useless compared to DOS. Wait, I still do....

Re: School Network
If you are having as hard a time as you are making out why don't you try using Micro$oft Word and use the web toolbar to open up a sub bar from where you can use the address bar like the 'Internet'. The better use in your' case would be to use addy's like "C:\windows\regedit.exe" or something of a similar nature. "command.com" is a good one if you are allowed... You can also use the trick to access 'offline' drives, "A:\" is usually offline because of the potential of threat from nasty "K1LL3r H@x0rZ" as the education authority would have it... Ha Ha, the fools.
