Re: thoughts on Antitrust?
I thought it was an ass kicking movie..but it didnt portray the computer world well at all. It made everything seem easy. I mean, at the end, Synapse wasnt even released, yet they sent the message to EVERYONE. I'd think that you would need to have Synapse first before you could get things from other users...And the way that tehy just sent out the message and everyone saw it. Wouldn;t everyone have to accept it?
And it just made hacking look so goddamned easy.. But other than that, the movie kicked ass.

Do you even know what the index.dat conspiracy was? Oh, it wasn't anything bad, just one of microsofts ways of stealing your personal information to make more money for themselvs.

Re: thoughts on Antitrust?
Besides in Anti-Trust Synapse rocked the world. If it was real today it would kick ass. Although preferably the company would be less law defying than that obviously evil company in the movie... Nothing like microsoft.

So you support illegal activity to increase sales? I most certainly don't. I don't want Microsoft finding out where I go on the net and then selling it to advertisement companies. I can imagine that you don't mind this, considering the above post. I suggest you take a logical perspective at this: If you can't make money selling your information why should anybody? You are only contributing to their monopoly. Not only do other buisnesses have no chance what so ever, but Microsoft is taking an illegal edge over them to do it.

Re: thoughts on Antitrust?
your right, i dont care. Besides i dont use internet explorer, I use Netscape 7.0 now which isnt logged. And there is no proof that the Index.dat is in XP.

Re: thoughts on Antitrust?
and for credibility, i was more refering to the fact that microsoft doesnt go around stealing competitor code and killing competitor's programmers. The way they are similar is the everyone hates them, yet they still use their stuff. How much you wanna bet that after anti-trust, after the company was killed or redone that they would still use the SYNAPSE technology!!! They're all hypocrites. I know you use microsoft. Index.dat is in the PAST So dont bitch about it Z.

Re: thoughts on Antitrust?
Like it or not, at least it 'looked' realistic. Nice to a movie where they showed linux prompts and code rather than 3d prisms and squares that are used in ever other 'hacker' movie I can think of.

Windows 2000 ADS... hmmm much like Novell's NDS, I wonder why. Windows GUI... hmmm much like Xerox's original mouse environment, I wonder why. Stealing? maybe not, but microsoft is definately guilty of peeking over some shoulders... You like Windows, that doesnt make MS innocent. Like whatever OS you want, but don't preach innocence, especially when there is none. Businness is guilty. Microsoft is business. Microsoft is guilty. I am guilty. Whats all this shit about innocence? Innocence is attitude.

Screenshots? where? by the way, it was written for 9X, no proof of it in XP. Still waiting to be proved wrong. As for Windows GUI, technically they got it from Apple in an early licence agreement that allowed them to use all this stuff. If apple got it from Xerox, what can ya do?

Re: thoughts on Antitrust?
But not comment on Windows 2000 ADS because you can't fight that, its obvious that Novell got ripped off because MS saw that Directories are far better for managing network resources than anything their engineers where thinking up.

Re: thoughts on Antitrust?
Disclaimer: The oblique parts of the following were taken directly from fuckmircosoft.com. Your index.dat file is hiden as well as many other system folders (all within temporary internet files) from windows explorer. A loophole which I found on all versions of windows (except 95) is goto c:\windows\temporary internet files\ (for xp goto c:\documents and settings\(your user name)\temporary internet files\ and clear all the files out (aka clearing your cookies). Next Go back one directory so you can view the temporary internet files folder. Right click. Properties. Wait, whats this? Mine says that I have 5.83 MB (6,123,334 bytes) of crap in here! Oh dear, 217 files and 9 folders!? That can't be, the folder was empty. The "desktop.ini" is a standard text file that can be added to any folder to customize certain aspects of the folder's behavior. In these cases, Microsoft utilized the desktop.ini file to make these files invisible. Invisible to Windows Explorer and even to the "Find: Files or Folders" utility (so you wouldn't be able to perform searches in these folders!) All that Microsoft had to do was create a desktop.ini file with certain CLSID tags and the folders would disappear like magic.Well that makes sense, now doesn't it. See my index.dat file? Well to be very frank, there isn't that much to see in it, just a list of websites that you have been to. But the really interesting thing is a folder called content.ie5. More on that, later. The typical desktop.ini file looks like the following: code:
[.ShellClassInfo] UICLSID={7BD29E00-76C1-11CF-9DD0-00A0C9034933}
or code:
[.ShellClassInfo] UICLSID={7BD29E00-76C1-11CF-9DD0-00A0C9034933} CLSID={FF393560-C2A7-11CF-BFF4-444553540000}
The UICLSID line cloaks the folder in Windows Explorer. The CLSID line disables the "Find" utility from searching through the folder. (Additionally, it gives a folder the appearance of the "History" folder.)
To see for yourself, you can simply erase the desktop.ini files. You'll see that it will instantly give Windows Explorer proper viewing functionality again, and the "Find" utility proper searching capabilities again. Problem solved right? Actually, no. As it turns out, the desktop.ini files get reconstructed every single time you restart your computer. Nice one, Slick.
Luckily there is a loophole which will keep Windows from hiding these folders. You can manually edit the desktop.ini's and remove everything except for the "[.ShellClassInfo]" line. This will trick windows into thinking they have still covered their tracks, and wininet won't think to reconstruct them.
I can't stress how ridiculous it is that Windows actually makes sure the files are hidden on every single boot. No other files or folders get this kind of special treatment. So what's the agenda here?Now that we can see what is really inside of the temporary internet files folder lets take a look. Windows 98, ME, and 2K users will find a few index.dat files along with other system files which really don't mean crap. Windows XP (microsoft's newest poison) however has a folder within temporary internet files called "content.ie5" On my computer the directory for this is: C:\Documents and Settings\Zok\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5. Within this folder There are many other folders with suspicious names. The names seem to follow no logical order, so don't stress yourself trying to figure out what they are. However you might want to stress about what you find inside. In mine, I found actual .html files of my hotmail account, along with .jpg and .bmp screenshots of where I put my password in for totse.com, I found most of last months porn spree. All in wonderfully hidden folders. If you are paranoid like me, you would have already designed a .bat to delete all these files on startup. I suggest you do the same. It is also important that you know that if you happen to have system errors concerning this area of your computer Microsoft will NOT help you. I faked a complaint to them. They denied existance of the content.ie5 folder as well as the index.dat. I wonder why....
