Used in old text based OSs (like DOS) and such to keep the text from scrolling past the screens viewing capability.

On some KVM switches (such as my Belkin Omniview), hitting scroll lock twice in succession followed by the up or down arrow will change to the previous or next node on the switch. Aside from that, you can really annoy the non-technical types at work by turning on the Scroll Lock while they are working on an Excel document. Aside from these two items, the key really has no function.
