hard drive installation
i am trying to install a new hard drive. i switched my computer off and took off the case. then i disconnected the power and ide cables for the old drive and plugged them into the new one. before that i had created a dos boot disk. making sure everything has been plugged in, i then turned on the computer.
when the computer started the floppy disk LED lighted and up and went off. on the screen i saw the startup screen which displays the computer maker name. i stayted that way. i wasnt going anywhere. i pressed F1 for setup. then there was a message on the bottom left of the screen "entering setup." and even after that not even the boot disk was loading. i know that there is nothing wrong with my motherboard because i have tried the same thing with another older harddrive and it seems to work fine.
what might be the problem?
thanks in advance.

Re: hard drive installation
If you are using a single plug IDE cable make sure it is in correctly (single plugs dont include the plastic lineup tab for some stupid reason).
Did it freeze after it said "entering setup"? And if it did freez, to what degree did it freeze?

Re: hard drive installation
Also, if you're using a double plug cable, make sure the drive is on the plug nearest the motherboard.

Re: hard drive installation
I once spent 2 days fannying about installing my CD-RW to find out that I hadn't stuck 1 lead in properly

Re: hard drive installation
thanks for your replies. i figured the jumper setting were incorrect.
i had the drive set to master. i was supposed to be set to single since it was the only drive on that cable.
