Default Spastic HD

First let me say I'm sorry if this has been brought up here. I gave a brief [very brief] check of the forum, but I could have done better, I guess.

My computer at work has a hyperactive hard drive. I'll be sitting there just reading some file [not even always when I'm on the web], and the HD will just be going and going like it was injected with a half gram of well made crank.

I look around the task manager and see nothing to account for it [not that expected to].

I'm stumped; and just a bit concerned: It has been suggested that it is a virus [if so, I have no idea what it's doing as my computer otherwise seems ok].

Is it possible that information is being read remotely?

Am I concerned over nothing?

Help please

Call me paranoid.......

maybe you dont have that much RAM, and while youre reading, your drive has to read the swap file all the time.

As taken from system information:

Total Physical Memory 129,260 KB
Available Physical Memory 8,400 KB
Total Virtual Memory 439,220 KB
Available Virtual Memory 211,888 KB
Page File Space 309,960 KB

So?

That wasn't the problem, was it?

Man. it's driving me to distraction, thinking what might be going on.

Definitely looks like a RAM shortage.

A defrag might quiet things down a little bit, but it's still gonna keep accessing things.
