Default Mac Classic

Got a Macintosh Classic for $15.00. Any information, tips, tricks or fun with it would be appreciated. My friend was baffled as to why, but I couldn't help it.

I have a Classic and a Mac 512k that are used for bookends, but they are fully functional. I'm trying to figure out how to use a PowerPC 7200/75 to act as a bridge between an appletalk and ethernet network. If you are interested in networking, there are ethernet adaptors that you can just buy. A Linux machine running netatalk is really nice in these cases.

is a good starting place to get it talking to the world. Finding software that works on pre-System 8 machines is getting harder to find but there is still enough to make your Classic useful.

I've played with NetBSD/68k on a Mac IIci but IIRC, you can't stuff enough memory into a Classic to make NetBSD work.

The case uses Torx screws, you need a long shank to get the top screws out and a little force is needed split the case. Since the monitor is in the same case, you need to be careful not to touch the high voltage stuff.

The weight of the CRT in these ancient machines makes them ideal candidates for use as a doorstop.
