Default splitting bandwidth

at present in my flat we have 3 pc's hooked up to a gateway server (p100, 1 gb HD, win 98) the gateway is hooked up to a cable modem.

now both my flatmates are fond of P2P namely kazaalite, which inturn gives me fuckall bandwidth. this means when i get up i get speeds of 1kb/s even doing things such as browsing. this is kinna anoying, i was wondering is there any way/program that can split up the bandwidth equally through the 3 pc's?

cheers, dub.

i would just ask them to not be wankers but if you want to get technical i would simply use a linux gateway. all of the things you want and more are built in to linux's gateway features. you can set bandwidth, cpu, and even time limits.

What you are talking about is similar to the concept of load balancing and like syphon said, linux with ipfilter (iptables) can be setup to support your needs... either that or an expensive router that is just as technical. Simple windows ICS (internet connection sharing) does not support these features.
