Default Roadrunner uncapping

Okay, i am considering uncapping my rr connection. I was wondering if anyone has done this before, especially anyone that lives in the tampabay area(tampabay.rr.com) I only wanna hear from rr people that HAVE done this before. I want to know what the consequences of this are if i am caught, and how common it is to be caught. Thanks!

well if you are running alot of stuff through your connection, enough to make it appear as abnormal then they are gonna notice real fast. the people at roadrunnner will only bother to look at your internet connection if they notice that it is taking away bandwidth from neighbors and other nearby customers. just keep your bandwidth to a min and you will be safe from them knowing. if they do find out the only thing that they will do is take away your internet connection, i have heard rumors of them sueing people but i think thats all made up.

there are 2 caps that you must break to be completely free from roadrunner's evil capping. 1 is software on windows that is in place so that IE will not go nuts and load too much stuff at once thus crashing your browser. the second is hardware, in your cable modem itself.

1. you can get a windows uncapping device from the following link. it is simply a registry key that will change the key value of just one key (i dont remember which one). after doing this you will notice a slight change in speed. http://www.newnan.cc/cable.html#QuickEasy

2. this method has to do with tweeking your network and router into giving a different kind of access to your cable modem so that it will not shal i say 'remember' to cap the connection but instead it acts like it is giving a different service and thus, no cap. its really not that hard to do if you know how to work with your network and router. but the chances that roadrunner will find out is much larger than the registry key way. http://www.xtechnet.net/content/uncap/home.htm

i have had both of these done on my home connection (i did not do the second one myself, just had a good friend do it). supposedly both of them will work, just the second is much more dangerous.

also to check your speed difference goto: http://www.dslreports.com/stest
(when using cable modems your speed is inflated no matter what, it will give you a much higher reading than you are actualy connected at. this test is made for dsl)

I thought that the cable modem downloaded the capping information and that the cap was actually imposed by the modem, and that you would have to modify the modem, or find one that didn't do this. But my connection either isn't capped, or the cap is so high i've never noticed, because i've seen it hit 3 megabits, so i've never tried to modify it. And isn't roadrunner now AT&T broadband now, or is that just in my area? There are many more fun things you can do to AT&T broadband beyond uncapping that i've figured out.

well it also depends on your location. me? i live in upperarlington ohio (HOME OF THE OLD PEOPLE!) so nobody has roadrunner for about a 5 mile radius, thus they dont care what our bandwidth is. if you are in a highly populated area with limited resources and lots of customers they are gonna cap it lower than they say they do.
