http://www.planetps2.com/features/articles/2002_q2/ps2linux/
microsoft beware. putting linux in the ps2 is goign to create a lot of linux user. this is a huge victory for nixers and the price is great. 400 for a ps2 and the linux kit is amazing. i see linux gaining more ground every day

Re: chalk one more up for nix
I aggree. I heard yesterday that in an effort to force Microsoft to improve the security of their Windows software, IBM has sold several expensive super computers to Germany loaded with the Linux operating system. IBM say they will continue to sell machines with the linux operating system if Users are willing to buy them, which I think they soon will be.

Re: chalk one more up for nix
is it just me or has linux experienced some explosive development in the past year? if we move at this rate it will far surpass windows "ease" of use in five years. the real key to the equation is getting companies to write linux drivers. this is a purely political problem.
on one hand it costs a reletivly small amount of money to write a decent driver for linux. this small amount of money turns out a big portion of revenue since the linux community will buy that product especially for its drivers.
yet on the other hand companies dont want to pisss off microsoft too much. obviously M$ cant tell a company not to write a linux driver of they will stop dealing with them but its sorta understood within companies that this pisses off the jack asses at M$.
the other thing i have to commend linux on is its instalation processes. with the maturing of the rpm system and disrtos like mandrake there is no excuse to not hop in. several times this month it has taken me serveral days to resolve hardware problems in windows (one of which is still havent solved) yet in mandrake i have dealt with them in less than five minets.
this is truely an exciting time for linux and all open source for that matter. now i would like to see a user friendly bsd.
