some ideas regarding PHP
Hey all,
I have some ideas regarding PHP that I would like to share and get some opinion on. Lets jump right in:
Currently, im working with PHP to develop some web based utilities for fun and some actual use as well.
Ive made a small 'ping' script that allows you to use ping on my box from a webpage. Now im working on getting a telnet client that is very similar. Basically just a web page interface using forms.
What are some opinions on this other than the obvious security holes? Does anything think this is possible/impossible?
Any feedback would be great.

Re: some ideas regarding PHP
nah nah nah, i dont want to offer security hole tools or anything like that. I want to simply create a web based telnet client using PHP. I still dont have all the logic that I will need in my head so it might take more planning than i thought. Oh well, shall be fun.
to check out the ping util: http://pn.wox.org/ping.php

Re: some ideas regarding PHP
Its not full production yet... and as you saw, the site really is not up yet. Im not ready for everyone to start using the ping util. Thanks for the reminder though, I do need to do that eventually.

Re: some ideas regarding PHP
cool idea but it think it has been done already. im not usre if it was done with php tho. i know there are web based telent clients but they are painfully slow and irresponsive. if you could make a usable client that would be totaly sweet.

Re: some ideas regarding PHP
Im sure it has been done before, ive learnt that nothing ive done in the past was an effort in pioneering. Don't think thats gonna change soon either.
My ping util is much simpler than many of you think as well... i just call `ping -c 2 $url` from the PHP script and grab the output. There are, of course, checks for switches so that nobody starts sending really large pings or infinatly long pings.
