Default How do those GamePads work?

I was at best buy sometime ago, and i was looking at the USB game pads they have there. I was wondering if anyone here has any techincal detail on how they work. And if anyone has experience getting them to work with emulators (nesticle, sneswx, neoragex, etc)

Any help is greatly appreciated.

well i don't really get u but the arcade emulator i use
MAME suport the use of joystick by default i don't i don't knw about USB joystick but the joystick relied to my sound card works fine

i'm not a very good programmer but i think u r so i'll provide some ideas u can program
a WIN32 program with direxct X 8(direct inpuT precisely) to catch the direction and buttons pressed of ur joypad and convert them to emulate akeyboard press by using keyb interruptions so the emulator will think it's keyborad press while it's ur program transforming joypad signals to keyboard system i thing with the king of knowledge i know u have u could manage to do it if u don't know direct x try allegro game library with djgpp u can also use it with
visual c++ it provides u with very very easy game functions including inputs so it will be easier i don't know how to programm resident programs for windows but i remeber one day when u helped me with real mode dos resident programs u told me that u need to program a device driver or something for windows any way the idea is feasable
GOOD LUCK
