windows movie maker is very easy but has limited capibilities, its good for taking things out and changing the format. it is very bad for special affects.

i would suggest that you look around downloads.com and see some of the demos, if you like any of them then see if you can get a full version.

i have used premiere 5 or 6 dunno i wasn't wild about it. Vegas Video is pretty good. Get the demo from their site then crack it save a few hundred bucks. it's a lot easier to get the hang of than premiere

What are you trying to do? Premiere makes sense if you get the hang of the simple functions..

Remember, the format you output in definitely determines the file size.

Personally, I find windows media files to be very small for decent quality, I saved about 500MB by recoding the files on my site using premiere..

i "exported" it as a mpeg file...perhaps an avi should be smaller but 300+mb is still more then usual for 40seconds...

hmmmm i have just bought a digital video camera is it fairly easy to slice stuff up and move it around and add simple stuff like text to it in premiere? im not too bothered about file size because i am going to write the video i am making to many cds then put it on video/dvd (if i can get a burner). i have a warez version of premiere 6 off a warez disk i bought... never looked at it tho....

file> Export timeline> Save for web>

pick a setting, select entire project, and hit start.

Try the same file with windows media video broadband setting..

i just finished the video, and what i did was file-export timeline-movie...

then i tried a couple of different compression ratios before i got the right one in the settings, then i save and it worked.

a 3 minute, 26second movie is now 16mb...i was so happy and the music video turned out damn good, only a little lag for some reason on some parts, im sure its not my computer but oh well its barelly noticable.
