I think that they live in the state of Washington, not the city. What do you think?

I've seen pages and pages of arguments over this, and nothing conclusive in any of it. Groening chose "Springfield" because it is one of the most popular town names in America.

Most agree that it's in America's heartland, though, so that rules out Washington.

illinous has a springfield, it also has a shelbyville which im not sure if any other states do

ive thought about it, and it wouldn't be overly hard to find out where they do live (assuming it is a real place) because of thier visits to other states. cross out the ones that they have to cross a border to get too, those not on the coast, those that don't fit the weather, the ones that they make fun of, those that simply don't fit and those that don't a springfield in it and youll end up with nothing.

it wouldn't be hard if one was so inclined.

Isn't there an ocean near Springfield in the show? I always thought Springfield was in Oregon.

Groening is from Portland or at least moved here and alot of the streets and character's names are derived from here.This isn't saying he hasn't got everything from Oregon though.

They actually made two versions of that show, with different states in each.

i know this much, the simpsons have to live west of the Mississippi river because their local radio station "Kbbl" starts with a "K" and any radio station on the west of the mississppi starts with "K"

And, they are within a 2000 mile radius of Arlen, Texas because of the football episode (Which Hank Hill is In) he says "I drove 2000 miles for this?"

It took them 5 hours to get to the ocean and they went to ny, somewhere on the east coast im guessing mass.

Whoever the fuck said they live in Washington is right. Groening said he was from portland and near there is the small town of springfield. His father's name is homer, his mom marge, his sister lisa, and his other sister maggie. this is common knowledge for diehard simpsons fans. I'm not one because the simpsons have sucked dick for the past 3 years.

How are they trying to be like South park? Do you have any examples of this new type of violence? Homer has been strangling Bart since the beginning, and then there is Itchy and Scratchy...

If you are refering to the Halloween Episodes, they have always been violent and strange.

When homer breaks his leg in the episode where he wants to start a day care, it bends and then he has a terrible wound, the one where maggie shoots him in his hand with a nail gun then shoots him in the ears, homer is trying to act like fonzie from happy days and when he hits a jukebox to turn it on his hand goes through and starts gushing blood, the simpsons keep trying to go for shocks now they aren't smart and clever like they used to be, notice how all the quotes people have put are from simpsons episodes that were shown 5 years ago or more
