Default Harold and Maud..

Ohh.. i have always heard about this movie but never got to see it. I only got to see snipits of it last night. What a funny movie this is. Now I know why its a cult classic.

HAROLD AND MAUDE
(1971) Paramount
Color, 91 min

3:00 PM / EST
Friday, May 03 2002

Starring: Ruth Gordon, Bud Cort, Vivian Pickles, Cyril Cusack

Director: Hal Ashby

A whimsical black comedy that became a cult and campus favorite, tapping into an inexplicable early-'70s zeitgeist. Harold is a rich 20-year-old obsessed with slashed wrists, self-inflicted gunshots, personal vivisection, drowning, hanging, and being burned alive-just to annoy his mother. Maude is a poor 80-year-old optimist who has a peerless affinity for all things living. Together, they attend strangers' wakes and find in each other a most unlikely romantic partner. This was originally writer Colin Higgins's UCLA thesis. Features a score by Cat Stevens.

Tales of the crypt is hella cool.

Harold and Maude is a cult classic. Its part of my all time favorite. I was so moved by the film.

And as a bonus it shows how the bay area used to look before everyone flooded the bay area to live. There are so many places in the movie that look alien now to the younger bay areans who could never imagine how the Bay looked before the housing boom. so many bear rolling hills that are now covered with track homes.

And there is one scene where they are in Berkeley/Albany on the beach where Cal Students used to make these statues out of driftwood. i forgot what it used to be called but they removed it around 1979. You used to drive on I-80 near berkeley and there would be all these little wooden statues made from Garbage and driftwood. it really brought back memories for me.

Behind the boat house
Default Re: Harold and Maud..

I thought the part about how the girl and the guy meet at support groups in Fight Club was taken from Harrold and Maude, but who knows. Both movies are awesome.

That one shot when his mum is swimming through the pool and she passes Harrolds body, face down, is one of my all time favourite shots.

Good film. :-)

Cheers,
Lost

i must have missed that scene. I liked when the mom was trying to set him up with girls through a computer dating service. and this one chubby girl from college comes over and Harrold is outside with a sheet on. It bursts into flames and she freaks out and harrold walks into the house. But the cool part was the cold look on his face.

Or even funnier was when his uncle is telling him war stories at the Sutro Baths and Maude is protesting and she takes his head. LOL him screaming "She stold my head" was funny.

If that doesnt make sense go rent the movie. LOL, i dont want to ruin it in full details.
