Default Censorship ignores the real problem,

When it comes to violence what gets censored? Explicit scenes of blood and gore. In other words, the realistic consequences of violence. They have no problem with such shows as Power Rangers, which are packed with violence (but no injuries or death) and are aimed at small children. What is this teaching our children? That you can beat the shit out of somebody and get your skull kicked around for a couple hours, then feel completely fine?

The movies/shows with the least blood and gore should be censored heavily in my opinion, in an effort to show young children that if you punch somebody in the spleen they can die.

What do you all think?

Interesting theory. I mean, kids all try to be like their fave characters or play at stuff like that, so you make a good point..

Right on Trippy, How many people saw "Saving Private Ryan" and relized how horrible war really is.

I knew that before I say saving private ryan. A good movie to watch is 'The war at home' written, directed by and starring Emilio Estevez.

and nobody mentioned wrestling, i loved it how politicians are real big for cleaning up the movie and television industry and then the republicans have the rock as one of their speakers? wrestling is the most, i can't even find a word to adequately describe my hatred of it. women the next time your old man gives you shit about watching soap operas, here's a good comeback. you watch wrestling don't you?(if they do).

how many people did john wayne kill? and he's a cultural icon in america. the thing is they have to stand up against something to get our votes, and after 225 years you start to run out of things to change. watch out people our freedoms are next, shit they already started on them didn't they?

Wrestling... there's nothing manly about big sweating lycra-clad men pretending to hurt each other.

I agree that shows that portray violence as something to be taken lightly are a problem. However, lets not forget that showing extreme violence is equally bad. Saving Private Ryan, while an overall good movie, crossed the line by showing a soldier get shot through the head. Keep things in perspective here: Violence is not to be taken lightly, but we should not forget that extreme violence is also a danger.

i think the violence in private ryan was correctly portrayed to a certain extent, they wanted to show the violence of war and came pretty close.

WTF? Crossed the line? How?

Being shot through the head... okay, that's probably the least graphic place to show somebody being shot. Unless the bullet hits you in the brain, heart or spine you're going to die fairly slowly. It could hit you in parts of the urinary or digestive tract and let you die very slowly. Perhaps in a blood retaining organ, or maybe blow off a limb and let you bleed to death in shock.

And speaking of which, did you not notice some of the other deaths in private ryan? The man who got disemboweled? The one who got a knife slowly driven into his heart? The one who got shot in the neck and decapitated? The one who got his arm blown off and wandered around looking for it?

At what stage of the movie did you get up and walk out?

I would have to agree with trippy. We as humans can learn by watching others. If we see someone get shot and watch him as he dies a horrible death, we can see a consequence of the action. Censoring this information censors reality, and this is of use to no one. Since we live in reality not just some fantasy world, i think censoring hurts us (even children.) If i was a parent i would think i would want my child to know about what reality is, while i am still looking over his/her shoulder. This way you can show "right" or "wrong" to a child. It does no good the shelter the child and then let the child loose and go at into the "real world" all virgin like.

Like that kid that clotheslined his brother and drove his nose through his brain. He saw it done on the wrestling and the wrestlers never get killed so he assumed he could do it too.

Professional wrestling should involve heavy doses of adrenelaine, PCP and cocaine before each match. All the wrestlers should be juicers. And all the fights should continue until somebody breaks a bone or ruptures a blood-retaining organ.
