Getting Caught with Counterfeits
If some dude is making counterfeit bills say, what would be some security precautions should he take?
For instance do you think the feds would really go after some small time crook making $500 really hard?
Is there a way the feds can trace a bill by fingerprints to its original owner.
Any other security measures he should take besides, hiding it outside of his house?

The feds will take the counterfeiting of a single One-dollar bill VERY seriously. Let alone 500 dollars. If they find out you have the motives or the means to counterfeit, they'll have a chat with you. Once again, the FBI takes counterfeiting of any sort SERIOUSLY. No matter how minute. Read this thread: http://www.totse.com/bbs/Forum7/HTML/002724.html ... I even bumped it up to the top for you. Read every reply within, and it should answer all of your questions. If you're really planning on counterfeiting anything past 1's, which even I wouldn't do, you'll probably get caught somehow. As the denomination increases, as do security features. The one dollar bill hasn't been re-designed in decades. There has been nothing done to the bill to stop high-tech modern printing. Why? Because it would be too expensive to put anti-CF features on it. It's such a low denomination, and the feds don't expect counterfeiters to target it. It lacks the watermark, security strip, color-changing ink, microprinting, and finer lines of higher denominations. If you do manage to successfuly pass a 5, without getting caught (hence successfuly), there would be no way of them tracing it back to you. They don't have your name, or fingerprints. I doubt you would leave a print on a bill, and either way, I'd hold it between my knuckles just in case. [This message has been edited by Phlab (edited 02-02-2003).]
