Re: Steal Broadband/internet????????
I'm not sure if it's possible to steal broadband... but what does work is, if one of your neighbors has broadband, buy a 5 port router or hub probably for Cat 5 cable. Most cable modems should have an ethernet adaptor for an RJ-45 jack on the back. Run the Cat 5 from the cable modem to the router or hub, then all the way to your house. It's easier if you live in an apartment or condo, but what you do is run the Cat 5 from the router to the back of your NIC. Then if you're running off of an old NIC for 56k, you would have to buy a faster NIC most likely.(so you could have more bandwidth and throughout) Basically this will lower the overall throughput if you're both downloading and stuff at the same time. If you don't live in an apartment, you could run coaxial cable of course then you would have to buy a different NIC or cable modem. You can't run Cat 5 becasue it's not very resistant to extreme weather conditions.(if you live in a stable enviroment, wrap the Cat 5 in a plastic tube and bury it about 3 or 4 inches underground, same could work with coaxial) But Coaxial should do fine. I've networked half of my apartment building with just basic knowledge of Cisco. We all pay a small fee so that we can have a T1 line for our ISP.
