shoplifting
hmmm Having afriend who works at a store is always a plus..since they can just look the other way while you slip through the side of the sensors or out the door, find a wallet and use someones blockbuster card as many times as you want and keep the dvds/games, just make sure you rent from a kid and you stop using the card exactly one month after you first used it, blockbuster sends a notification to the card owner if rentals are 1 month late....the magic bag works good on most stores, ive gotten caught that way though(the bag had a hole in it)but i got away, or you could just run in a store grab what you want and run out thee doors ..most companies have a policy where employees are not alowed to chase shoplifters , and by the time security gets there you should be long gone(dont try this in indoor malls)

There are generally one or two camera on each isle. Consider this: there is no way that they could possibly watch all of those cameras. You're better off looking for blind spots, or just being very suble about your thievery from Fry's, though -- all the stores have ONE exit, and they will stop you when you try to leave. Basically, they have a few TVs in the back, and they have cameras wired to joysticks. They follow around people in the store and record them if they look suspicious. All in all, Fry's isn't an easy place to steal from. See if they have what you want at Wal-Mart first. While Wal-Mart does monitor cameras in the electronics section, they do not watch people in many other sections of the store (bikes, fabrics, etc.) where nobody steals anyway. I have heard that many Wal-Mart "cameras" are decoys, but have not been able to confirm this myself.

Make a scene usually works good. Even the undercover security will come to the rescue. However, it only works once and might cause unwanted hassle. Also, I think i might be starting a little project to evaluate various stores and see if they are easy to shoplift from. Maybe take pictures of real/fake cameras, various types of security devices...etc...etc

If you use a camera of your own, you can see throught the black covers of the camera mounts and spot the empty ones.
Of course, walking around taping everything is suspicious in itself.

Re: shoplifting
You can't see through the domes with a camera.
They're not magic bubbles that only a lens can see through, you know. If anything, the camera has less light sensitivity than your eye and will have an even worse time of it. The domes are tinted on one side, and the only reason the cameras inside them can see out is because there is enough light outside the dome for the camera to take in. You can't see the camera because by the time the light comes in (and is dimmed by the coloring on the dome), reflects off the camera (dimmed again), and is passes back through the dome (dimmed yet again) there isn't enough of it left for you to see what's in there.
Sometimes you can shine a laser pointer through there and see if it reflects off the camera inside. Sometimes you can't. Either way, firing lasers at the security cameras is bound to annoy someone.

Re: shoplifting
Actually, Zero, they are magic bubbles that only a lens can see through.
The black plastic is opaque. In the visible spectrum. CCD cameras, however, can see much deeper into the infrared spectrum than the human eye. This is why Sony camcorders come with a "Nightshot" function. The camera filters out much of the visible spectrum and uses an IR illuminator to "brighten" things up. You can't see the IR light, but the camera sure as hell can. This is one reason security cameras are B&W, as well.
I would expect more from such a highly esteemed moderator, Zero. I really hope you're not starting to warrant that "inestimable" label you've given yourself.

I tried it with my digital camera, and i didnt see much. I am going to borrow a camcorder(sony) from my friend that i beleive has the nightshot function. Also, there are these banned x-ray lenses, or at least lenses that can see through a typical shirt for sony camcorders. Anyone heard of them? they were on techtv not too long ago.

The ones I see commonly are one-way glass. They're mirrored on the outside and largely opaque, like the things the cops use to spy on you during interrogations.
If some of them are IR filter plastic, though, you will need a CCD camera that's sensitive to IR (in other words, a camcorder or good digital) and unless the camera is equipped with an IR filter of its own you'd need an IR illuminator on par with the sun.
That's just not productive.

Minor addition:
The "x-ray" lenses for the Sony cameras are IR filters. They don't package them retail with the Sonys anymore , but you can still buy IR filters for a wide array of cameras from any good camera shop.

A few posts back I answered that question, you know.
Barcodes are ink on paper. The theft sensors do NOT detect them. The theft sensors do detect the theft tags, which are there for a reason.

If it's a bar code sticker it sometimes will set them off. If you peel one off and see a coil of wire then it's a sensor.

Yeah, sometimes, they hide a coil type theft tag under the bar code. Also, i realized that certain cameras are ir filter and some are one way glass. I also noticed that you can just see through a lot of them with your naked eyes.

I read somewhere that you can see through the one-way mirrors with nightvision goggles. If it is true you could use those (if the domes are made of those) and not have to film everything, but you would have to take notes which would be conspicuous, especially if you were walking around with nightvision goggles on.

It is possible i beleive, but night vision is too expensive, i wont be able to take pics with it, and its just stupid getting a 700 dollar night vision system for looking through cameras. However, this is a good idea, i might go to big 5 and ask to try a night vision goggle.

Re: shoplifting
I love shoplifting from large corporate chains, even though they often have tighter security than smaller stores. If you are paranoid about your theft and you make sure NO ONE IS WATCHING YOU, you probably won't get caught. I almost always buy something inexpensive like a 20 cent pack of gum to keep people from being suspicious.
Something I'd like to know: Are there any stores where the security cameras are actually watched by human beings? Usually they only check the cameras for evidence against a shoplifter they have already caught, right?
I simply can't imagine that certain large retailers who are open 24/7 pay to have people watch you...it seems to me the loss in goods would be negligable compared to the cost of employing someone to sit on their ass and watch tv. Plus, have you ever seen the video quality of these security cameras on cops shows on TV? 90% of the time it's grainy as fuck, how would they be able to pick you out stealing shit unless they were looking for it?
Here's something interesting I found at: http://www.crimedoctor.com/shopliftingPC.htm
"To establish a solid base for probable cause, and prevent false arrest claims, there are six universally accepted steps that a merchant should be follow before detaining someone suspected of shoplifting:"
1. You must see the shoplifter approach your merchandise 2. You must see the shoplifter select your merchandise 3. You must see the shoplifter conceal, carry away or convert your merchandise 4. You must maintain continuous observation the shoplifter 5. You must see the shoplifter fail to pay for the merchandise 6. You must approach the shoplifter outside of the store

Re: shoplifting
I found that he best way to steal is to wait by the escalator until someone goes onto it then go behind them and use them as a shield from the cameras.
I always carried a plastic bag containing something large enough to hide whatever I was stealing without actually putting it in the bag, as this would make it obvious if I was seen.
I also always bought something as some of the stuff I stole was wrapped in shrink wrap and occasionally had security tags inside the wrapping.
If the alarm went off I acted surprised and told the security that I had forgotten to give what I was stealing to the person at the checkout when I bought the other stuff. The security guards always believed me.
If you act innocent you will be treated as if you are innocent.

Seeing what stokesy said, what if....
I got say a dvd or a game or anything thats in a box and can be resealed once i take the stuff out. I get behind some guy on the escalator/stairs, then open the merchandise right under him, take a trip down, remove it, then yelling mommy mommy where are you i go up and reseal it.
However, just one problem, wouldnt they have cameras on both sides of the escalator? I mean one on the top and one on the bottom.

You can use your own body to shield your hands/things that your stealing from the cameras.
However, it doesn't really matter if they do see you, unless they see you removing the magnetic tag, as all you are doing is holding what you are stealing next to a bag that will stop the security guards seeing that you are stealing.
I never bothered taking stuff with sucurity tags on it as they are too much hassle to remove and an obvious sign that you are stealing. I just wandered round until I found something that wasn't security tagged, took it then returned it later for store credit. If you do this make sure you take something that is bought regularly and not something that probably has'nt been bought for 5 years.

here is how i loot pants and shit from hot topic. 1st, make sure you are going to buy something..you HAVE to buy something like a pair of pants or something. 2nd..go in there wearing those nice 69 inch mennace pants they always have.. 3rd..grab alot of clothing..like your going to try them all on .loot like two pants, wear them under the 69 inch pants ...and go in with a hoodie..loot like 4 t shirts under the hoodie....if you brang in enough clothing they wont notice you put back half of them..then walk up to the counter and buy pants and a shirt. they will never suspect a thing..being that most of the workers are burnouts listening to music half of the time and not even paying attention to the customers

Re: shoplifting
OK heres my own experince go early in the morning during shift changes and just before closing.
When there first opening there to concerned with getting prepared for the day. Security in a booth with the cameras will be to busy putting in blank tapes store clerks will be doing stock checks and everyone will be tired if they open early enough.
During shift changes theres alot of comotion if its one of those places where everyone switches
And before closeing if your the manager after standing on your feet for 6 hours are you gonna want to watch the kid whose punking the 30 dollar dvd or are you gonna want to get into your 30 000 dollar car and drive to your 100 000 dollar house and get into a nice warm tub then sit relaxed with a cup of coffee and the remote???
DUH lol
And most security people do u know how boring it ould be sitting there stairing at a camera for hours on end....(unless a girl with a short mini skirt bends over to look at the hair gel far at the back of the shelf.) And like 13 people have said (im guessing ive seen a few) not all the monitors can be watched at the same time. And if i were to be sitting in a small room surronded by tvs. I guarentee not all of them would be on a security circut id be watching regular tv or id be sound asleep in my chair with a little beel on teh door incase the boss is coming. lol neways dont get caught and follow my other advice and stuff

Re: shoplifting
Just one thing I have noticed lately. The walmart in my area employs a HUGE security force. They have at least one security personall, or at least it appears, to be watching every group of teenagers that walk in during a normal school day. I might be wrong and plain paranoid, but I know for sure that there are plain clothe security without radios or anything like that, who doesnt talk on cellphones, and shops around, and actually buys things.
I also tried the pocket something in public as mentioned above. It did not generate any responses from the annoucement, however i beleive some security did tail me closer. Also, i noticed that the store workers that wear walmart uniforms did nothing but stare at me briefly. I also noticed that as the plain clothe security started coming (only 1) there was no visible sign of radio contact, even though he was coming from halfway across the store(i know this because my friend was tailing him, and i know he is security because i seen this exact guy catch someoen before).

Re: shoplifting
Here is the stratgey that worked for my friend and I.
Enter your local walmart superstore with a friend, wearing a backpack. Grap a cart and put the backpack in it. Be prepared to buy a few things. Grap some food or whatever you need and toss it in the cart. Grap your target items as well, inconspicuously. Dont try to be sneaky at all. That will arouse suspicion. Just put it all in the cart like everyone else in the store. Casually make your way to the automotive section, once you have all of your items. The automotive section typically has isles that have no camera coverage due to displays such as tires and it has less cameras in there to begin with. Keeping a lookout for anyone else, cram the shit your gonna lift in your backpack, but not to the point where it is too overfilled and looks like it is just crammed with everything you could get your hands on. Casually proceede to the lawn and garden section. Again, there are few cameras in here and usually large displays that block the few cameras in certain isles that have no cameras mounted directly above the isle. Hide the backpack behind something like a hedgetrimmer on a low shelf. Proceede to the checkout and purchase the items you are not planning on stealing. Exit the store and load the shit into your car. Then, drive over to the lawn and garden entrance and drop your friend off. He should go in, get the backpack and put it on, then go over to the automotive section. Meanwhile, you drive over to the automotive section exit and park near the door with a clear exit, in case a high speed getaway is necessary. Your friend should have no problem walking past the single attendant in the automotive section who is usually swamped with customers at 2pm on a saturday. if he is questioned about the backpack, that is when he should dip to the car and a quick but fun exit is in order. However, we have yet to have been stopped or questioned. The mechanics also could give a fuck less about the backpack he is wearing. Just casually walk out, get in the car, and drive away, flicking off the security on your way out. We have stolen a 60$ air pistol and many other things this way, it seems pretty solid. The key is to look completley natural and not draw attention from the people watching the cameras. There is little chance of you getting caught. Good luck, and remember, fuck Them!

I figure if you go to the clerk with a bunch of items in your cart and try to buy the colonge, they'll probably think you'll pay for it when your ready to check out.

Two questions:
1) Does anyone know how to deactivate magnetic and/or radio frequency tags? Normally, I just peel them off, but these days they are actually packed inside DVD cases and some video game boxes. Something portable would be nice, especially if it was small enough not to arouse suspision.
2) What do you guys do, go into Wal-Mart with a camcorder and tape the cameras using various frequencies in the e-m spectrum until you see something? That's insane! Or are you using some sneaky method I haven't thought of?

Re: shoplifting
This isnt a tip at all just a small story I guess. 2 days ago I was going to Wal-Mart and Home depot. Theyre in this large plaza where theyre building a best buy and all kinds of other crap. [no doubt a ploy to bring down the mall accross the street, which it WILL!] When arriving in the plaza area I was wondering if I should goto Wal-Mart or Home depot first.
I went to Home Depot first! I was there to steal some piping parts. So I grab them, and go from the pipe isle [its right in front of the registers!] and down towards the lighting isle. I figured big items, at a low cost [like the flurouescant shop lights] would be a lot less watched by store employees. So in the isle Im standing tere, waiting for one guy to leave, and BOOM the entire store goes black. Obviously I pocket my shit, but the power goes out.
I was so pissed. When I left the store [I wouldve stayed but Home Depot doesnt carry much I wanna steal!] I notice the entire block is out. NO lights. And non in Wal-Mart! And they wheremt letting people in Wal-Mart.
If I had gone into Wal-Mart first, I wouldve been SOOOOO fucking lucky, as the entire thign lasted about 5 minutes! Which is enough to grab a fuckload of shit, and walk out. [the only thign on where security l;ights, so I doubt cameras would be on but Ide still remove items from the packaging to be safe]
Perfect example of the wrong place at the right time!

This is true only to certain types of shoplifting tags. The ones that are a white strip, where if you cut them open, there apears to be two peices of thin metal strips placed inside. quote: Originally posted by midas_the_happy_canadian: just in case anyone was wondering, the dark cover in front of security cameras is actually bronzed glass. Once again, this is only true in some cases, while in others it simply wont work. And shattering cameras isnt smart...

Re: shoplifting
"Bob" used to shoplift all the time till "Bob" got caught- believe "bob", getting caught is not worth it, so if theres any chance of getting caught, dont do it. Stuff to remember: Its usually better if you bring a friend, but make sure they look innocent and know what theyre doing...It's really obvious if you're with some geek who's like, "what if we get caught?" every 2.5 seconds. If you're using the fitting rooms, make sure no one is standing by the door, even if they look like theyre waiting on someone. When "Bob" got caught, some geeky guy was playing like he was buying his daughter some clothes when he really had a radio in his hand talking to security. if you tear tags off, don't leave them in the fitting room. Leave them in a pocket of a pair of pants which you put back on the rack. If they suspect anthing, the fitting rooms are the first things they check. Someone said to take tons of clothes in with you- thats definitely obvious and the security guys laughed at "Bob" for that mistake when "Bob" got caught.Take only about 4 pants and a shirt or two, like you're trying to match them up. Know the cameras and get comfortable with shoplifting before you get risky. "Bob" took over 1500 dollars worth of stuff before "Bob" got caught- and when "Bob" did, it was with the least amount-$114. Don't look like a criminal- When "Bob" walked in, he was wearing very baggy clothes and a big hoodie. - Try something just as baggy but nicer, like khakies and a long sleeved shirt. It also helps to follow what looks like a responsible adult into a store even if you don't know them, so it looks like you have parents to buy you stuff and would have no reason to steal. Try to play it cool if you do get caught. When "Bob" got caught, they checked "Bob's" car for other stolen merchandise and went through "Bob's" purse and everything. Despite the fact that the car was stolen, "bob" had no license, "Bob" had a weapon, and "bob" had illegal drugs, "bob" was able to play it off and was "very cooperative" with the security and "bob" only got off with having to pay a fee for processing files on the shoplifting. Bad places to shoplift- Kohl's, Claire's, Sears, little Koreaan Stores at the mall. Good places- Walmart, and any other cheap ass huge store

Re: shoplifting
Question - How is the security at Radio Shack? I dont know about the states, but every Radio Shack Ive been to in Canada, has been a tiny little thing. NEVER a large store. So I think by that, that they wouldnt have security cameras? I only ask because today I wanna go steal a coupla PC fans. I know its stupid to reveal a plan online, but if the feds wanna bust me down for under $100 in pc fans they can! What I think Ide do is go in, and go right the the fan shelf. All shelfs are aligned at the back of the store, which means no one can see you! Then just take the fans [first two, @20 each] out of the box, and slide em into the pocket. Then, grab the CPU fan, and put the whole thing in the pocket. Then finally a few connectors, whole thing in the pocket. Think this is safe? I mean, do you think radio shack products would have the swipe ttabs right inside the sealed package? [like the oens with a big cardboard back, with a think piece of plastic holding in the produc at the front] Think the store has any security? Any cameras? Its in a mall, so could the mall have cameras in the stoe that go straight to mall security?

Re: shoplifting
Radio Shacks (in the states) don't have theft tags. There is usually one camera in a dome in plain view over the pocketable items (parts). There is sometimes another small non-domed camera facing the register in case of a hold-up. Rarely if ever are they monitored. Radio shack employees are easy to fool. Their stuff is easy to steal. Go nuts.

Re: shoplifting
At the radio shack near me, they show their cctv footage on half the tv screens in there. It kinda freaks the average theif out, but where they small parts like pc fans, there is no video survilance, or at least from what i can tell. I havent tried stealing from there since the people who works there know me and are able to hook me up once in a while. It is probably safe to try in your case however, but dont steal too damn much at once.

Re: shoplifting
Even though I'm only 17 I consider myself a shoplifting pro. I've taken things ranging from small $5 items to $500+ dvd burners and paintball guns to $1000 guitars, speakers and amps to this very computer I'm typing on. The majority of the time I go into the store with an idea of what I'm getting. Other times I go to Walmart just to get milk and bread and leave with $200 in electronics. Most of the items I lift are either sold at a fair price or given to people in exchange for favors or pot. Even though I could easily live of the things I steal, I've got an honest job. I can't remember when I started shoplifting or why, but I do know that I'm not quitting anytime soon. Anytime I start feeling bad about the things I do I try to remember, they steal from me too and they are the enemy.

Re: shoplifting
Tips from an experienced shoplifter:
Patterns to live by 1. The times for customers to enter are random. The shift changes and security equipment is actually fixed. Even if the cameras are joystick mounted, they are still in a fixed position. 2. Target is a very bad place to steal from. There are more cameras than Hollywood in those stores. Instead try something like dollar stores (Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, Dollar General), as security is at a minimum. Tools can be ripped off of Home Depot remarkably easy. 3. It is easier to conceal smaller amounts of objects. If you go in at 6 foot 1 and 155 pounds and come out 6'1" and 470 pounds, you will increase the odds of getting caught. 4. Security units are by the doors in some places. If they are shaped like capital A's, then they are mainly radio operated units. I would estimate they operate at 800 kHz to 20 mHz. A homemade jammer may stop them. If the cash registers have next to them a black or dark grey metal square, then it is a magneic unit. 5. Just because they look like shoppers doesn't make them so. 6. The hardest part (for me) is not actually stealing the item, but getting away. Step 5 above explains why. 7. Cameras are pretty much only scare tactics. Theyre only around to prove you stole anything. Even if someone were watching them, as Zero said, he has about 30 others to look at, and gets paid minimum wage for it. The only rule as applied to the cameras is "no fear."
Tricks and Tips 1. Conceal a powerful magnet in your back pack. Then just casually set your merchandise next to it. Security tags should be facing it. 2. Don't lift any object bigger than 3" Long, 4" Wide, and 1.5" thick, unless your desires call for more. Likewise, do not steal a whole lot at a time. Come back to the store at a random date and time. 3. Always dress semi-appropriately. They look at the leather clad killers before they even notice the dorks in Dockers and glasses. 4. If there is an outside part (fenced in, no doubt), then shove a very thin item underneath it. Just drop casually your money, hold in your hand your item. Set the item down, pick up your cash, and push the item under the fence with your foot. 5. Don't carry any knives, guns, drugs, explosives, or whatnot. 6. A diversion will distract attention. And there are many ways to cause one. The best are thought up by you. 7. Never take an item into the bathroom. It will only raise any suspicion. 8. Park your car as close as possible to the door. Do not put your items in the trunk. Allow yourself about three minutes to pack up and leave. 9. Buy a few things. It makes it all appear that you are not lifting. But not a whole lot. Remember, speed is the key once your out.

Hahaha all this talk of shop lifting reminds me of a funny story a pal of mine told me about a (rather stupid) girl that i know. Well he was in wal mart and so was she. They werent toghether, but he saw her try to put this digital camera in her coat. Well thats great but theyre on chains mind you. The clerk turned around and saw her, and she ran. Well she got about 6 ft before the chain stopped and she was choked to a stop like a dog chasing a car on a leash. Hahaha gets me everytime.

Heres a question, where would the best type of place to get small light, yet expensive stuff with good resale value be? I was thinking Video Games, but the diffuculty is a bit high for the returns.
Also, on a side note Pink Spid3r, I assume you live in the Brisbane Area (knowing Electronics Butique). If you thinking of stealing from there, your NUTS. It'll take forever to get to a getaway vehical, and its TINY. The guy on the counter can see everything and has helpers.

Re: shoplifting
This is a scam I have been thinking about. - A couple of days ago I was in a sam goody store and a guy set off the alarm when he came in. He had a bag from another store with him. The girl behind the counter looked at him and he said, "they couldn't get it to work next door." I watched him the whole time to see if he tried to stick shit in his bag. He didn't take anything, he bought some cd's,and of course he beeped when he left, but they knew he would because he did when he came in., so they just waved him on.
Kickass, I thought. You could if you were slick enough, stick a few things in the bag form the other store, if they knew you would set off the alarm anyway, they wouldn't question it...mission accomplished.
Am I nuts to consider trying this?

Well, you would have to get the tags off stuff from stores that don't have sensors. There are a couple of EB stores in my area that don't have sensors at all, just very watchful employees. You could take the tags from the shit you buy, steal, whatever. Also, If you have ever bought dvd's thought the mail or on amazon.com or cd now, those damn things have the sensors inside the boxes. There are still a few stores that have tags on the product, but no sensors at the doors. Granted there are not many in the downtown area, but many of the smaller suburban malls (like the one where the particular EB store I am thinking of is), they do not have the sensors at the door. Another question for you all, has anyone tried to steal games or anything from Toy'sR Us? These stores have cameras, but there is a shitload of blind spots...just wondering.. As an added note, Office Max is also easy as hell to steal from, (someone mentioned staples before...same deal) There are no cameras at all in my local store, but most electronics are cabled to the shelf right in front. There is also no sensors at the doors. I stole a shitload of cdr's there the other day!

i just saw my own post and laughed at how dumb it was. why cant i just say take the tag off of a video game, place it onto maybe my cell phone or something that the store doesnt sell. walk out, wait till alarm sound, show them you got nothing, then stick the bag with the cellphone through the door, and show them that your cellphone is magically setting it off.

Re: shoplifting
Yeah, That's a kickass idea!
I think if it is a store you go into fairly often, you can develop a rapport with the employees, so much so that they trust you enough not to stop you if the alarm goes off. You could even buy something, have them demagnetize it, come back in, immediately after setting it off and have them do it again. If you can get them to trust you and you play it cool enough, they won't question it. You would just have to be careful about the frequency of this behavior, at which stores you do it, in other words, don't do it at the same store all the time. It is all about playing it cool, if you act innocent, the more you can get away with shit. Make some legit purchases most of the time and they will remember you as a regular customer, not a shoplifter. This only really would work on smaller stores whrere the same people are always working... just some food for thought.

Re: shoplifting
i you want a very low risk steal try this. (i have done this many times) buy a product, such as a container with a powder in it that has a seal. go home, carefully break the seal only in one corner and pour out the contents and put back in something cheap like flour etc. take it back to the store and tell them the seal was broken when u bought it and u want a refund.u could either get ur $ back or get 2 products for the price of 1.

Re: shoplifting
There's all kinds of stuff you can do for return scams. The basic principle is as follows, however: Buy a big expensive electronic item. Make sure the item's box has a seal on it. Pay with cash, take it home and carefully remove the seal such that it does not damage the box, and remove the item. Gloat over your purchase. Find some worthless object that weighs about the same as the contents of the box and will not hold fingerprints (slice of a brick, perhaps?). Repack the brick in the box, and make a new seal with three or four stacked up layers of clear mailing tape. Seal the box, take it back, say you forgot you already had one or whatever, and they'll give you a refund if you're within the 14 days or what have you. Now, it is the policy of most stores to make you fill out a little return card with your name and phone number so they can hassle you if they check the box you returned and find that it is sans merchandise. Obviously, fill out fake information on the card. Preferably the name and phone number of someone you severely dislike. Since there is a seal on the box (though they don't know it's not the real one) they will more than likely treat it as unopened merchandise and will not bother to check. The box with your brick goes back on the shelf, you walk away with your refund, and you still have whatever you 'bought' waiting for you at home.

Zero, your technique is very good. But (i dobut it but) what if the person your returning it to decided to open the box on the spot and see whats wrong with it (if you used that excuse)? The best excuse would to say that you bought it as a gift and it was the wrong thing and just get your money back. If they did for some reaosn open it on the spot, Id just run... but it be risky. any ideas?

If that happens you're basically screwed. That's why you return it to a store you never shop at. If the person behind the counter is completely clueless you could act as surprised as they do, but that probably has even less of a chance of working. Make sure you've got fake info on the card, and if you need to just beat feet. If you're lucky they already gave you your money. If you're not... Well, tough.

Re: shoplifting
Ahh.. SHoplifting.. Its an art, really. Two strategies have I for you.. Bring a small boxcutter wiht you in the store, adn when you find an iten that you like that has the white magentic stri p on the outside, cut the section of plastic that has the magenetic strip off. You might want to just throw it behind a shelf, so nobody finds it and gets suspicious. Be carefulf becaus eI have seen some items (like DVDs and PS2 games) that have magnetic strips inside the case as well as outside.
A better way is to go buy a few things for cheap in a store, like radioshack. ( I am using radioshack as an example, becuas eI have tested it before) I tried it on soldering tape (1.99) a bunch of diodes(.99) and some magnetic tape(.50) Cheap, right? Now, exit the store, and come back in about an hour, with the radioshack bag on you. Find an item that you like, something small and that would fit int he bag with ease, and just walktz out of the store. If there is an alarm, make sure to whip out your receipt and shot it to the guy/girl. Don't hand it to him, just flash it towards him. They let oyu by. Usually, they don't have alarms, though.

Zero, that sounded like a good technique. One time, my dad bought an ISDN modem (sucky, tried to convince him not to) . IN place of the modem was a block of wood. Never actually thought that somebody would slip the block in, becaus eI've heard stories of bankrupt companies putting bricks in place of hard drives, modems etc.

Cant you just make a big deal in the store about how there wasnt a digital camera in the box?
"WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS!??? I bought a damn camera and look at this bullshit, I dont know what the hell your problem is, but I dont see how you can sell a customer a blank box. What the hell is your damn workers doing?"
This can be done inside the store, say perhaps after you exit, you take the item out immediatly, have a friend take it away, and come back within a minute yelling on the top of your lungs. Sure you can only do it once, but a 500 dollar digital camera is well worth it, and on top of that, stores like FRY'S will let you get away with this.

1) what's the best way to get rid of the white strip theft tags that are packaged in cd cases and dvds? 2)if i wrap a dvd or cd in aluminum foil will it get by the sensors? 3) If i get caught with just a few cd's or dvd's what's the worst that could happen to me?

Re: shoplifting
HOLY FUCK ASLFJDH im a pro? yay! to answer your questions, 1.The white strips most commonly are mag strips, which you can de-magnitize with a magnet. However, since you are talking about inside the package, im not so sure about just wiping a magnet over the whole thing. You might want to open it, or if you can, get the magnet to almost touch the tag. A small seperation between magnet and tag is ok, such as maybe the jewel case. Read what zero said about the power of magnets earlier and you will see what i mean. 2.If you wrap something in aluminum foil, i beleive it will prevent the radio transmition type of theft tags from working. www.howstuffworks.com will show you different types of shoplifting prevention devices. Getting by the sensors using the magic bag, or aluminum foil technique will depend on if you are sure of the antishoplifting devices used. There are a few past threads about magic bags specificly so i think you should read those. 3.If you get caught with a few dvd's and cd's, you will be detained, and if you piss them off/store policy, they might call the cops. It also depends on how old you are, past record, resistance, etc. If you are under 18, showing no resistance when they detained you, they will just call your parents and let them pick you up. If you are caught running, and for some reason his doughnut powered muscles outran you, then you will get the cops called since you ran. If you are over 18, then they might A: take your id, ask for fine, not call the cops. B: call cops straight out. This will depend on like i said earlier past record and how you behave.

Re: shoplifting
idk if this was already mentioned but i find it good to just go into a record place (where the people who work ther arent up tight motherfuckers) in the mall with some shit you bought from somewhere else (preferably clothes) and a friend..(if you dont have any friends thats kool to0) but casually at a low level, slip shit into your bag (make it seem natural) and make them fall into the middle of the bag (dont do any nervous bits or act differnt than you usually would) . ok find one cd you want and have your friend get one. wait till thers someone else or a couple people in line. pay for yours first. and then and act like your looking at shit let your friend check out have your friend kinda stall till some other peeps walk out then you and your friend walk alarm goes off leave area of censor off into mall. and then leave (they wont notice).
another good thing is go in with a friend put a whole bunch of shit into your bag pay at same time walk out (both buy something) and then when you go out alarm goes off have your friend run like a bitch (plan this out before) they might chase him or report it but since you just stood ther, they know its not you. and if they catch your friend have him just say he was late to get home or somethun and then they wont bother with you bcus youll be long gone ..and holy shit you have ruffly 20 or so cds(of your choice of course)..maybe some music device and some dvds.
and if your passing thru a city or something were your just visiting just pick some shit and run ..unless your fat and slow, shits yours. and last but not least this is theory here, but put some cds or something in someone else bag. and leave after they get caught(or whatever happens) and then theyll probably be to caught up to bother seeing if you took anything.
and oh yea if your up on snaking smokes like in rite aid or somewhere. here what my friend does. gets a couple boxes hides them on him go to the bathroom. turn off the lights take them all out of the box(es)..get the wrappers and either stuff them in the septic thing on the toilet or into the ceiling boards.
and my last one.. very profitable if i may add ..make sure to ONLY to this with white people (not being racist but they ALWAYS watch you if your colored..so dont be walking in with all ya guys from the hood..bcus theyll probably think your ...yup here to take things, ..which ..you are lol). ok depending on the size of the store (better if theyre small) go in with 1,2,or 3 people and hopefully there will only be two or three people out helping and wear something like a jacket, sweatshirt or longsleeve shirt. have your friends keep them busy and have them keep wanting to see things and pretty soon, the people working ther will slip up and leave something out. then your friends will have to keep the store goons eyes on them (friends that are good actors could be helpful) ...slip the item(s) into your sleeve and soon after leave. dont hit the same places very often and once in awhile buy something so they dont get to0 suspicious (and they dont go bankrupt). well thats all for now..im out peaCe

Re: shoplifting
sup everyone! i just wanted to share a few words of wisdom to all you beginners out there. if you are over 18 and u have stolen just a few items from a store, say a cd and some other little things, DON'T RUN AWAY if they come after you, it's not worth it. I came really close to getting caught earlier tonite. Fucking manager chased me for about 2 blocks, even out of the parking lot. So if you have been told that employees and managers won't chase you or touch you, if you get out of the store, don't listen, cuz not all stores are like that, the manager tried grabbing my jacket and i juked his ass and sprinted away. This happend to me at a fucking dominicks. while trying to hide in backyards and attempting to make my way back to my house i saw at least 5 cop cars using there huge beacon lights searching for me. over a cd and some candy. Just take my advice and don't run, you'll just piss them off, and if you're not lucky like me you'll probably get arrested. Peace!

Ok, this is what I was thinking, it may require 3 friends. First, get one friend to steal shit and hide it. Then, another friend is on the shitter with a small tv for 60 bucks or a microwave or toaster. The friend cuts the box open, takes the shit out and waits till the other friend steals stuff and goes into the bathroom and hands it to the friend taking a shit. The friend puts that in the box and reseals it. He wil then put the item that was in the box in the toilet, close the lid, and put a sign that says out of order (not your handwriting). The friend friend that stole stuff will then leave the store. The friend on the shitter will come out with the box full of stolen goods and put it back on the shelf and him too leave the store. You will then about five mins later go to where the friend dropped off the box, pick it up (not immediatly), buy the item for like 20-60 bucks. Then most likely the thing will go beep and you will have your bag checked and they will see the box and wave you on. IF they open the box which they won't you can just say you thought it was some certain item. Another thing I do is put a magic bag in my enlarged pocket, put shit in there, and in my other pocket i have a taser or pepper spray or even a smoke grenade. IF I am caught I will then run and throw a grenade in front of me and run through it, taser the guy, or pepper the hell out of him

Re: shoplifting
It was the bon marche, and thanks to christmas it was really packed, no dumb clerks to ask me how im doing. So i just picked out 5 shirts, went into the dressing room and slipped 4 of em on under my sweatshirt. then i took the 5th shirt and placed it back on the racks. smiled and walked right out. very simple and very easy.
Oh and does anyone know what those rounded mirror plates are that stores have on the ceiling?

Re: shoplifting
quote: Okay a little help here, my friend nearly got his ass busted and had a heart attack at the same time. He decided to test out the magnet theory and disable the small white rectangle security tags with an earth magent He bought on the net. How he tested it out was that he found a package with a tag on it, he removed the tag and ran the magnet over it a few times. He inserted the tag in a small item that he know they would not try to demagnitize. He paid for the item and he proceded thru the detector and NO BEEP. Great this works fine. Now the real test. He picked up an item that I knew had a tag concealed inside that he wanted to disable, he ran the magnet over the spot that he knew had the tag inside. He made sure he ran it in many directions and for quite a while. There is a spot in the store where you can look at merchandise that is near the detector. He placed the item in the cart and kind of just wandered thru the dectector and play it like he went thru accidently. Well he did that and NO BEEP. Alright this magnet thing works great. So now the ULTIMATE TEST. He concealed it and walked thru the detector. BAM, LIGHTS FLASHING, HORNS BLOWING, BEEPERS BEEPING. He Books, He Sprints, He Runs. He hears someone behind him say, excuse me sir could you come back here.( I like it when they call you sir) You kidddin, he's running for his life here. The doors started to close and he prys them apart and put it in high gear, hits his door remote to unlock his door, good thing he backed in and had a key in the ignition ready to go. He looks back and see the person looking around the parking lot as he pulls out. He didn't have time to see who it was. What in the HELL Happened here he asked himself. He thought he checked this out completly, all the tests had passed. My question is when you demagnatize these tags, is it only a temporary thing, do they go back to being reactivated after a certain amount of time? The first tag he had carried around for a good ten min after demagatizing and it DID NOT go off, the second one was deactivated for only about 2 to 3 min before it set the alarm off. What happened here. How do these critters work. Are they deactivated differently at the checkout? Someone please shed some light on this. Thanks. Phew. Sorry so long but scared the hell out of him.
ok havent responded to this topic in like a week but here goes. regarding the swipe thing, i beleive there is a specific thing to do with the direction of his swiping, or he was just plain unlucky in ther there were multiple tags inside the box. the first of the two possibilities, the wrong swiping direction thing, shouldnt occur if he swiped it enough times with a strong enough magnet. I think Zero knows lots about how the whole direction and magnet thing works. the second of the two possibilities, which i beleive is most likely the cause. some stores put more than one security tag inside a specific item. they do this to games, dvds, cds, etc. when they put the item over the cash register demagnitizer, the electro magnet will usually deactvate both the tags, however, with a small magnet that you are using, you would need to deactivate both tags individually. does your friend still have the item? if so, did he open it and check why?

Re: shoplifting
I'm thinking, since they check your reciept when you walk out, find somebody else's reciept in the parking lot, find a bag of the store's, gather those items, and when they check the bag, they'll confirm on the reciept. Presto, you're free.

1. before attempting to steal anything from any store remember the possibility for cameras. nowadays they're everywhere. come in one day and check out the area, remember where blind spots are.
2. when stealing multiple items, wear baggier clothes, makes detecting a hidden item by sight hard.
3. keep it cool. act like your just shopping around. dont be jittery.
4. if you feel like your being followed, run. its not worth getting caught over something stupid.
5. know what your going to take before you plan it. when you have successfully hidden the item you are stealing, buy something else to make the store employees less weary of the fact you are just loitering around.
6. and last but not least, dont get caught
dont forget...if your doing a bigger store, they might have security monitoring. i know your not dumb but security doesn't always have shirts saying what they are and what they do. so security can dress just like normal people, if you feel like ur being followed and you think you know who...move around...see if they follow you if they do...make sure they're watching you when you reveal that you are returning the stuff you stole. they cant stop you until you've walked out with the stolen items, so if you return them, you can walk out as if nothing happened.

Re: shoplifting
i work at the walmart that SomeEverydayNobody wishes he was in during the blackout...i wish i was in that night too couples things i thought i could add, about wally world specifically- 1)store security rarely carry phones. usually there will be a page for a persons name to call a certain extension, or go to a specific department. right now my store uses 'madison' though ive heard names like carlos and orlando were used. 2)sometimes, on slow nights, they let customers take movies and cds up to the front register to pay, if they say its one of the last copies and theres still stuff they want to look at. getting the stuff out of the heavily monitored electronics dept. makes it easy to demagnitize, remove tags, etc. 3)theres usually a display by the front entrance thats close enough to the alarms that you can walk by to see if your loot will set off the alarm, and if it does, and anyone cares, just play it off like you're checking out the display. 4)security goes ape if theres a bum in the store. the couple occasions homeless people have come in our store, the employees are all over them trying to catch them doing something. this is a great opportunity to pocket stuff. thats all i can think of now. ill try to add more if i remember it.

Lots of people mentioned this before, however if security sees you doing it, then you are screwed as they have camera footage proving you did such a thing. And if security didnt see you...then why even bother with the bag and receipt at all? Why not just walk with the item?

Re: shoplifting
ive never done this, and dont suggest it, but with todays technology and computer graphics software you can beat stores at their own game, most big stores like kmart, wall mart, target etc. say "they will beat anyones price", well just get an ad from another store, get the right paper and make your own prices for certain items, tell the other store theres a cheaper deal, so they would have to beat it, its not shoplifting but maybe a great way to get a huge discount

It's called 'being secret' about what you're doing. If you can stay hidden long enough to bag the items, then I say go for it. Most thieves don't do any good in plain view, so, if you did such a thing, you would need to find a video camera's blind spot. As for walking out with the item, that's not the point. The 'items' are what we're after.

while a pack of gum may seem tiny to you compared to a cd, the store sees it as the same - lost profit. i work at a large, national retail store and our asset protection team will track down and take down (if need be) anyone who is found to be stealing anything, even as "small" as a pack of gum. sure gum may be cheaper than a cd, but to them crime is a crime, and a shoplifter is a shoplifter. you will be prosecuted exactly the same way if caught, until you get to to large ammounts when it changes from petty theft to theft (or whatever the legal terms are).

Re: shoplifting
Also, with the receipt idea, places like Costco and Guitar Center check your receipt when you leave, and usually mark them with a pen or a stamp, to show that the receipt has been checked and the person with it has left the store. so, the only way this would work would be if they didn't mark the receipt, you didn't do it too soon after the original purchase, and you took some common items (if the checker is a suspicious type, they might notice that you're buying the same items that some other guy bought before- but you never know how ignorant these people can be)

Yes and if you can be secret enough, why bother with the bag at all? True that it reduces the risk of detainment if caught, but its the same if they see you putting items into a bag, and putting items into your pocket.

I have done this a couple of times; Go into a shoe store, preferrably one that keeps all the shoes in boxes on the shelf, you can just try them on without a clerk having to go to the back room and get you the mate.
You walk in with a pair on your feet that you don't mind leaving behind, you get a few boxes of shoes, and you start trying them on. (This is normal shoe buying behavior here) Once you find a pair you like, you try them on, walk around to check them out. Then put another pair of kicks on, walk around, put the ones you want back on again, put all shoes (including the shit ones you wore into the store) back in the boxes. Put the boxes back on the shelf. Walk out with your new ones. You can even (if you are really ballsy) buy a pair and get a 2 for the price of one sale to avoid suspicion...but I would not reccomned that. Just get what you need and get out.
I rarely if ever steal anything from a store, but I decided to try this at Wal-Mart. I was in front of the cameras the whole time, but I was checking out shoes for 3 hours to find some comfortable ones. Walking all around the store, etc. I found 2 pair that I liked but only wanted to pay for one, so I put my old shoes on top of a box at the very top of the shoe isle (pretty high up) wore a pair, bought a pair in the box at the register and walked out. I had to cut the tags off of many of the shoes to get the laces laced up right because they were blocking the lacehole and off the ones I walked out with of course. I say to bother with the bag, because you can probably (unless you wear 36'' pants like me) carry more in a bag than on your self.

Re: shoplifting
I just walked out with a pair of super clean brand-new shoes as well as the ones I bought. Everybody that walks into the store has shoes on and some people take good care of their shoes so I doubt the cashier was even giving it a second thought.
I just left my old shoes behind on top of the shoe isle, didn't put them in a box.

Yes he has the item and there was only one tag inside buried. Like I said he ran the magnet over the item and left it in the cart. Pushed the cart thru the detector and NO BEEP. But after hiding it on his person he walked thru the same detector and it beeped. Like it reset it self. It was the little rectangle white sticky tag. It seems as if it was deactivated and reactivated a few min later. Your thoughts. [This message has been edited by Slick Shopper (edited 12-29-2002).]

I doubt that it can really re-magnitize itself, or at least I have never heard of such a thing happening. Once again, Zero is probably your best bet for magnets and everything related to it. Right now Im testing out my new Epson c82 printer, and I will do some research on the subject as soon as I can get this damn thing to print some novelties for me.

Re: shoplifting
Before I take something from a store I bring a friend with me. A good technique we use is walk through different doors and act like we don't even know each other, usually going to some racks, taking some stuff, carry it around the store until you see you friend, casually walk by each other, and pass the objects to your friend. I find that a good technique if you have a feeling you are being followed! It saved my ass once when I was being followed by a Employee of the store, luckily I handed the stuff to my friend, leaving nothing on me. He went on and searched me and I struggled a bit and he found nothing on me, he appologized and I gave him the finger and walked away, meeting my friend outside to have a bunch of goodies!

wouldn't returning the item to the shelf look less suspicious than walking past a strnger and exchanging items as you pass?

The point of the exchange is so that no one will notice you passed the item off, and letting a friend having the item instead of returning it to the shelf.
BTW, this has become one of the longest threads :-)

Re: shoplifting
-= Requirements =- - You previously bought an item from the store - Store allows exchanges - Store places stickers on items you bring in that you want to exchange (Besst Buy does it) - You can hide items well in the store - You have a razorblade - Sticker can be removed without damage - Store carries items with opened boxes (that previous customers have returned) - An open box is available for the gadget you want to steal -= The Plan =- 1) Identify a popular item 'GADGET' you want that: - Other ppl touch alot in the store - Other ppl exchange alot - Is light in weight - Is fairly expensive - Is small in size - Has other similar brands - Can be grabbed off the shelf (salesperson doesn't have to fetch) eg. video card 2) Visit store in the AM with a legitimate item "to exchange" (eg. a 'CAMERA' you bought there) 3) Collect the sticker for the day ('OLDSTICKER') on CAMERA from the security guard at the front door 4) Find a GADGET in stock where an open box model exists ('OPENBOXGADGET') 5) Purchase a _new_ GADGET: - Hide OPENBOXGADGET - Do not exchange CAMERA (you need the sticker for later). - Be sure to get a big bag when purchasing. 6) Leave store, go home 7) Remove sticker from old item with razorblade at home. Do not damage sticker! 8) Open box for GADGET and remove GADGET 9) Insert el cheapo duplicate ('FAKEGADGET') in box 10) Return to store: - With FAKEGADGET in your big Besst Buy bag - With undamaged sticker - Around nood - Preferably when store is busy - Preferably at a time when there are alot of returns/exchanges (after holidays) 11) Collect the sticker for the day ('NEWSTICKER') on FAKEGADGET - Must be identical to the sticker you brought with you 12) Go to where OPENBOXGADGET item is stocked (your hiding place) - Act like you're checking out different models 13) Place OLDSTICKER on OPENBOXGADGET ("i brought this one in") discretely 14) Put OPENBOXGADGET in your big bag along with identical FAKEGADGET 15) Walk around a bit 16) Go hide OPENBOXGADGET again 17) Leave store with FAKEGADGET 18) See if security stops you - You haven't stolen anything yet!! 19) Go home, remove NEWSTICKER from FAKEGADGET 20) Come back a few hours later that day and bring along FAKEGADGET - Come back with a lot of money in your pocket if you get caught 21) Go to find OPENBOXGADGET item with OLDSTICKER (your hiding place) 22) Put OPENBOXGADGET in big bag along with FAKEGADGET 23) Walk toward exchanges, pause, call someone, turn back around and return to where you found OPENBOXGADGET ("you changed your mind") 24) Put FAKEGADGET on shelf (OPENBOXGADGET is still in your bag) 25) Leave store with OPENBOXGADGET as soon as possible - Let security guard at exit see OLDSTICKER on OPENBOXGADGET - Security guard will assume OPENBOXGADGET is FAKEGADGET - Security alarm will sound as you exit - Act coy and a little annoyed, it was a false alarm, accomidate security guard if necessary
Disguise tactics for your 3rd visit: - "You feel welcome here" - Inquire a salesperson about the return/exchange policy on your 3rd visit there - Check out similar items - Write down prices
