accelerants
im lookin to find out wich accelerants are difficult to detect at the scene of a fire. i need to know what would initiate a slow burn that would last long enough to light near by fuel sources without needing too much oxygen. this excercise would be taking place in a finished basement with the goal of doing the most possable damage with the least amount of suspiciousness.
any one know of such a thing?

Re: accelerants
If your going to do anything like that outside of a basement then youd have to use something like ether depending on the area that could pass off for something inconspicuious but then again depending on where you do it maybe not. Inside a basement i would say diesel but that makes too much smoke so it might be too obvious.......Hey phrack you wouldn't happen to be trying to fake your own death then leave your life to start a new one would you?

Re: accelerants
No he fuckin' wouldn't, "phundage phor mah stalking" is five pages long and there are three other topics about Phracktal and Sarah Mclachlan, maybe you should learn to read. Phracktal, try asking this question in "Laboratory Tips" because Madchemist, tryptamine and (I think) acidmelt are chemists. I still don't agree with the fire though, I think you should just wait there until she comes home (see my last post in "phundage phor mah stalking").

Re: accelerants
you will get caught you know, arson is an easily detectable crime. Fire leaves alot of evidence. For example if you use an accelerant the char patern on the walls will be excesively large because of the speed at which the fire spreads. Thats just one of the many many clues a fire leaves.

Re: accelerants
Yes any kind of liquid fuels are going to produce telltale marks on everything etc.
If I wanted to try something like this I'd make it look very accidental, old unsafe natural gas/propane aplliances with pilot lights that blow out near old sparky electronics can..... well you know but it is a fire you are looking for, not a way to de-roof a house.
I can't see anything that might work in this situation, except maybe something like solvents that wouldn't look suspicious being there in the first place(this will only work if you are talking about a garage or shop)

Re: accelerants
this topic has prescious little to do with Sarah and more to do with my job. i do demolitions and i like to know how, and where, my work is comming from. i know all about substandard electrical wiring and furnaces.(i did HVAC for almost 5 years and im the son of an electrician) natural gas is not new to me, and neither is fire investigation.
im just trying to figure out how some of these fires are starting. the house im in now has some $70,000 worth of damage and it all started from a bad outlet. but the placement of the outlet is not condusive to the type of damage. it was in a laundry room, 3' from anything remotely flamable and the romex that hangs where the outlet once was, is almost undamaged. the paint on the walls was bubbled to powder, in a 5' section around the origination point. the thing that i dont get is that the paint was lead based and the whole house contains asbestos(some totalling more that 20%) theres minimum smoke damage in the upper floor but it was hot enough to melt magnets off the frige upstairs.
what would burn like that?
i wanna know what people here would use to create such damage. tell me how an arsonist would do it. give information to some of the would-be arsonists. cmon guys, show us what you know.
and to the kids out there, learn, and give me some work.

Re: accelerants
Sorry 'bout that, we thought you were asking how not how someone else could have done something. I'm guessing it was electrical, considering the house was old enuf to have lead paint and lots of asbestos it probably was old enough to have substandard wiring with the old cloth insulation that cracks and stuff. It could have shorted in the wall and slowly burned the studs of the wall from the inside. Really I haven't seen what kind of damage we are talking about etc. but this could have been it, no arson involved. One could set up these kinds of dangerous circuits as long as they covered their tracksand made sure it didn't look like anyone messed with it and there weren't a bunch more in the same house.
