Default ss number question

hey all i've been looking wide eyed at my ss number and began to think, if someone ever has my ss number what can they do it me. so i was wondering what are all the things one can do with a social security card? can i like clean out someone bank account, credit card, social security or retirement fund?

the ssn, by itself, cant be used as much of a weapon.

however, the ssn can be used for the perpose of information gathering. that information can be easily put to nasty uses.

if your target puts himself in situations that require that he use his # often, then the usefullness of knowing that # become greater.

for example, if the # holder relies on credit to live, or if he moves alot, or if he's an active, normal member of society, then you might be able to put his # to good use.

if, on the other hand, he's a high school kid with little or no credit, no job, and no life, then the usefullness of having his number is limited.

you can use it to track him or gather other info about him but thats about it. that "other" info could be priceless though.

People sometimes use it for identification- that is places that do not use picture id. Also a lot of people (stupid ones i'll admit0 use it for on line verification. i.e. like dummys on eudora that use the last four numbers of their ss as the secret question to their e-mail.
