Anyone know how the cameras in the malls worK? Does one single room contain all the cameras from all the stores or does each store have its own room to view its own cameras? Is it likely that theres only one or two security guys watching the cameras or are they jjust sitting there reading the paper like hwo they portray it in movies?

if they see u come in and they dont think u look suspicious then they probably wont watch u too hard. but their not just gonna be reading a newspaper or sleeping. they enjoy catching people

Quite the contrary, I think. According to my suspicions, most malls have a central security room manned by a few people that watch all the cameas, and the larger stores (Sears, Macy's, &c) have their own security setups.

For the most part the cameras are to scare shoplifters and catch employee theft. The bulk of the shoplifters caught are flat out seen by an employee or set off the alarms on their way out of a store.

If you are seen by a camera, the security operators have to radio the mall rent-a-cops (goons) with your location and description, whereupon they dogpile you and detain you until the police arrive. The thing with security goons is they seldom carry real weapons and can easily be dispensed with. Translation: Kick them in the balls. Problem solved...

You only get caught because you're afraid.

i have a friend that works security at sears and he was telling me about it. i guess i thought every store did the same thing. thanx for setting me straight. either way if u know how its not ask risky as it seems.

I work in a correctional facility and our control center was set up by the same firm that installs systems in Vegas so depending on the kind of budget that store has they get what they pay for.

Ours has a main consol with twelve monitors that are connected to 24 cameras, two cameras per monitor but they can be switched for whatever purpose depending on what the control center Sgt and or Officer like for their viewing comfort per se. 12 of the cameras are stationary the other 12 can pan 360 degree�s by a joystick on the consol. The cameras that can be moved can also be zoomed in & out, they can read the date on a dime.

There are also several other feature�s that do an array of functions, quick pan, quick 360,return to last point of view etc�and the one�s outside the facility also have little wipers on them to clear rain and snow�

The one thing you'll have to watch for, and I forgot to mention this, is golf cart goons. There are usually security goons in little golf cart things in the parking lot, and some higher class malls even have them in real cars. If you're on foot you'll have to pull some interesting things to get away from these guys. If you have a car they'll write down your license plate number. Either way, come prepared.
