code grabber
hey guys im doing an electronics project for college, i need help to make a code grabber: something that records the signature code of a remote control of an alarm, and then plays it back to disarm the alarm, often used by professional car thieves. please let me know. I know theyre available at a price from american stores but not here in london.

Re: code grabber
You mean a frequency scanner? There was a schematic for one in one of the last issues of PE, it didn't look all that complicated. However, those things are like lockpicks... not quite illegal to carry everywhere, but if you don't hav a damn good reason for having it, you could get in some serious trouble.
Pick a different project. Your teacher will be proud.

Re: code grabber
i 'll try to find that artcle in practical electronics, but meanwhile, what i understand from a frequency scanner is thaat it can find the correct operating freqency of the alarms remote control, but i'm stil unclear of two things:
1: getting the freqency is one thing, getting the alarm code trasmitted by the remote control, is that not a different thing altogether, im not trying to be rude i just dont know
2: can a freuency scanner TRANSMIT the recorded frequrncy once it has been recorded so as to disarm the alarm?

Re: code grabber
On newer car alarms the frequency changes everytime it is sent. I think it uses a mathmatical formula so that the remote and the alarm are on the same frequency each time. So, at least on this type of alarm, it wouldn't work...on older ones it is completely possible
You could also build a device to capture frequencies of garage door openers. watch people come home...capture there frequency, then when they leave...open sesame.
