Default Lyrical Brains

Does anyone else think that AIC is the most intelligent band there ever was????
Not saying other bands suck, but compared to the bublegum-punk "bubblepunk" and poser music you mainly hear on the raio, Alice In Chains has lyrics compared to that of Einstein, while all this other, "I love you, you love me" crap looks like what you'd find scribbled on the back of a first-graders' paper. There are a lot of other bands, like Megadeth
Soundgarden
Rage Against The Machine
Pantera
Sepultura
Death
Jerry Cantrell
Biohazard
and nameless others that actually write and say what they mean, unlike
N*Sucks
BackSide Boys
Britney
Christina whats-her-name
who write what they think "the fans" and "their people" want to hear. that crap makes me want to vomit my very lungs up. Does anyone agree? Let me know if i forgot any other bands in my lists...

Ha! You are so funny. AIC best lyrics? Im sorry, but The Beatles, Doors, Led, and many other bands have much better lyrics and also much better music!

I have to agree with that. I completely forgot about the Doors. I have to agree with Alice In Chains, though, because the topic was supposed to be about how much better their lyrics were than the sucky bands. i tend to get off topic just a little bit. feel free though, to add the velvet underground, neil young (i know), Lennon (i don't wanna be a soldier), mad season, and pearl jam. I also want to comment on why i added biohazard on the list. Rarely can a band convey their thoughts with why the world is wrong and get away with it. just recently, pearl jam got criticized for a song called "Bushleaguer" off their new CD Riot Act. Anyone will have to agree that Biohazard have kept a pretty low profile, considering they tend to sing mainly about topics simlar to that.

Layne Staley wrote better lyrics than the Beatles.
So did Morrison.

Using Morrison as your lyrical standard is very unfair. The man was an sex crazed alcoholic with an IQ that was off the charts. Your not going to get a more creatively built mind than that

Haha. Good point Jack's.

Syphon, I hate to break it to you, but The Beatles did NOT suck. You can say they suck once you have achieved the same, or better status that The Beatles have. And Lennon was amazing. =)

I could write line after line of my favorite AIC lyrics...but I would be rambling on & on! Layne was a gifted soul like many others mentioned here (Morrisson, Billy Corgan). I hope some of you will dig out your AIC cds and read some of his lyrics after reading this...I know I'm going to! May his Soul Rest in Peace~

then by that standard i suppose the backstreet boys are the greatest rock musicians to ever live since they have sold more cd's and made more mtv apearences than the beatles.

I'm going to have this comment ripped to pieces and no-one will agree with me but I'm going to say it anyway.

I think Eminem CAN BE a fantastic lyricist. Most of his singles are crap (Without me, Real Slim Shady etc) but I believe Stan is a classic.

sounds weird coming from me, but i couldn't have said it better. Eminem -although rap- is a great lyicyst, lyricist, or however you spell it. To be able to speak your mind while holding your feet firmly on the ground must be the one great virtue we all have. It just takes people like Eminem, AIC, beatles, etc, etc, to do that though. I also have to say the same thing for "Ikba333". I, too could spend an entire night typing away some of my favorite Staley lyrics, but for readers' sake, i won't. the number is too many. And something else, it really did rain when (he) died, just thought i'd throw that in...

Tom Yorke from Radiohead, because his lyrics are amazing, deep, working on different levels, full of metaphor and simile and are amazingly distinctive.
I loved the tool lyrics til I realized how much of Aenima was taken from Bill Hicks, my fave comedian, and it just stunk of plagiarism.
Cobain was excellent.
Bob Dylan is amazing.

Stan, The Real Slim Shady, Kim, Drug Ballad. The Kids. None of those are him moaning.
You see there's this strange thing with rap. You have to listen to the lyrics!

wtf? kim is about his girlfriend/wife and killing her. drug ballad is him moaning about his drug issues. the real slim shady, well ill give you that one, its just cliche self glorification versus moaning. i cant really remember what the kids was so im lost there

PS your suggesting that i didnt listen to it when i have never even met you and when the fact that i like it or not has no bearing on whether or not i listened to it!

I wasn't suggesting anything, merely saying that that had to be a preety boring way to spend over an hour if you didn't even like it.

P.S The Kids is saying about how you shouldn't do drugs (as is Drug Ballad for that matter) and I notice a distinct lack of Stan in your list as well.

So what if my album collection only contains a vast selection of classical, neo-classical, jazz, fusion, rock, metal, hip hop, trance, ebm, darkwave, techno, dnb and swing music.

I'm allowed to be close minded if I want!

ok just so you know and dont flame me for it i base my lyrical preferences on the way they sound with the rest of the music and not too much on their content.also flaming someones opinion is just a waste of time. they're not going to change their mind just because you disagree with them.
i like
swollen members-theyre lyrics almost always sound great and are usually put together in neat ways(chorus from deep end-simple yet very effective)
modest mouse-very good and pretty thought consuming
rage against the machine-zac is an insanely talented lyricist.end of story
beatles-hey gotta love em
eminem-very talented, perhaps not original in topics but rather original in composition
i hate to admit it but i think limp bizkit has some rather catchy phrases in their songs.they may not be very talented in their lyrics but almost everyone can for surely find a line they can use as a catch phrase or motto in at least one limp song.take mine for example-puff puff give, the marijuana cig, oops i dont even smoke but i love the way it smells. totally true for me.

oh yah forgot i also like gobs lyrics nuthin. special bout them but hey i like em anyways.
back to s+m i think i should also mention they way that moka only could be another instrument and not a vocalist at all.also how often do u hear a reference to mr.dressup in rap songs and its not insulting but rather complimenting(switchblade-prevail mentions casey and finnigan)last thing-when mad child is on he rocks(at about the 2 minute mark of new details he is definetly on,also during freak fantastic at the 2 mintue mark he does one of my favourite rap parts ever.)
remember that unless a group is specifically out to send a certain message, lyrics are just supposed to compliment and enhance the music
