Indie Cred
The problem with good indie rock is the complete and utter lack of exposure it gets outside of it's area. Ignoring anything thats signed to K or Kill Rock Stars, name the three best indie bands in your are.
SF/Bay Area would hafta be I am spoonbender, Persephones Bees, and the Numbers...

Re: Indie Cred
I disagree with you saying that good indie rock rarely gets exposed out of its area...I live in L.A. and i've heard I am Spoonbender. I must admit, i'm not that informed on local indie bands here...

Re: Indie Cred
My current area: Will Haven, Tenfold, onelinedrawing. in the last few places i've lived, i think Bumpin Uglies is the only band that has really left an impression.

Re: Indie Cred
Hey I like I am Spoonbender.... but I'm from the bay area so nevermind. Also is it true that Persephone's Bees broke up recently?

Re: Indie Cred
quote:
Dear fans, friends, cousins, nephews and nieces,
After that fabulously amazing show that you all attended at Make Out Room I've been bombarded with the e-mails an telephone calls about the status of Persephone's Bees.
This is the answer, and whoever guessed it is going to win the prize: Persephone's Bees Is Not Breaking Up!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A change in the band's line-up was confused as a break up of the band. We are still on and going strong!
and LA is a musical epicenter, it's like SF and NY, everything goes through there...

Re: Indie Cred
true indie rock doesn't get all that much exposure, but you have to look in the right places, namely college radio. my campus station the famed WHRW is a bastion of great indie and underground rock music. check this stuff out. http://www.whrwfm.org/
as for the best indie bands in my area i would have to go w/ ny bands since there's really no scene here. Heston Rifle is amazing, as are the feud, and Helen of Troy.

Re: Indie Cred
There's some really kick ass indie shit in North Jersey/New York. Stillwelle, Stick Figure Suicide, Tokyo Rose, The Art Party, Friendly Fire, 37 Slurp, Folly and a whole shitload more.
Shady View Terrace was a really kick ass band from around here. They were absolutely amazing, but then they broke up and the band that some of the members formed afterwards, Amping Copper, simply isn't up to par. Something similar happened to a band called Pencey Prep, who was really amazing before their drummer got a bone disease and they had to call it quits.
