Re: most productive musical decade
The 1970's was the birth decade for most of the music that we listen to these days (Metal, Punk, etc.). Plus during that 10 year period alot more effort, an thought were put into the music, musicians were more creative, and less imitative.

Re: most productive musical decade
Since you specified "in the last 200 years" most of my votes are out. I think, overall, the classical and baroque periods really laid much of the foundation. But no one here cares about that and im off topic.
In the last 200 years, my opinion would be shit. In the last 200 years my favourite types of music have either been laid a very long time ago or withing the last 30 years.

Re: most productive musical decade
the most productive decade was split... 1965-1975 If you believe anything else, you are very, very wrong...
The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Doors, Hendrix, Joplin, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Black Sabbath, all those cool Psychadelic Bands, Soul Bands, Rock Bands, etc, etc...
Check out the best bands, and their best albums, and they came out in those years...

Re: most productive musical decade
i would have to agree with red bannana monkey. '65-'75 was the best time period for music all of the punk/modern rock is based on these revoulutionary(sp?) groups. The three most influential in my opinion are the beatles Jimi Hendrix and The doors but there are soo many other great bands too during that time period.

Re: most productive musical decade
fully dependent on which genre, i gotta make note of the 1985-1995 era, some good fuckin hiphop came out in the late eighties (eric b and rakim, krsone, early ice T and the like) and early 90's had a shitload of crazy music (early offspring, vandals, guttermouth, that sorta shit)

Re: most productive musical decade
when did motzart live again? well, when ever he was was a good one, and valdez, he was a eurpoen composer, not well know but good..... as for recently, it would have to be 85' p untill I'de say about 97', lots of good punk, but the grunge was in there to... it all depends on what you like, but the 70's was some nice stuff to... ALL DEPENDS ON WHAT YA LIKE

Re: most productive musical decade
Hm, yea 65-75 probably, that or 90 till now. The whole grunge era, the whole pop deal (i hate pop by the way), rap made it huge. Rock is making a come back, bands like Radio Head, Sonic Youth, ect... Since Elvis Music has been changing all the time...well, since the Beatles and Hendrix...cant forget Led.

Re: most productive musical decade
will have to agree w/ last several posts. '65 through '75. i mean the sixties (especially the latter half) was just chock full of great musicians and great albums, far too many to name. and while the 70's may have had its share of crap you can see by '75 the begginings of punk and alternative types of music-not to mention metal was taking off by that point.

Re: most productive musical decade
Most of us can admit that past decades had many great musicians but what can we say about the late 90's and early 2000's? When 2010 gets around we'll be calling that decade, the 10's and when the 20's roll around, it'll be the 20's- I find this really odd how time repeated itself. By the time its the 70's again we might have new Hendrixes, Morrison's and Plant's(Robert). For now...this modern day music fucking sucks...so back on subject- I think the time period between the 50's and 1994 is when the real music was happening.
