Their not sellouts.. heres a definition of sell outs. A band is a sellout when they have no control over their music for example backstreet boys, nsync, and any other pop bands. Now metallica isnt a sell out band. Their rock/metal gods and can play wherever THEY want to. Sellout is just a name that people give bands if they dont like them, and its true. Iron Maiden are the same way. They are just not a touring band like the scropions. Iron Maiden doesnt suck. Check out their webpage and check out all the albums, the lowest spot ANY of their albums was at was 16... thats not sucking. And they have sort of died out, but what heavy metal 80's band hasnt? Please, someone tell me. Alternative, rap, and pop are in now, metal took a back seat and is lookin to come back. Go with the Doors type attitude, just dont give a fuX0r what anyone says.

I saw them in concert when I was young with my older brother. They kicked ass. one guy we met there said he and his wife followed Maiden while they were on tour and every show they gave wasn't shitty.

I wouldn't say that the majority of their material has been very good, but I fucking love most of their earlier stuff, maybe the first four or five albums. I see Iron Maiden as being vital to the development of heavy metal. They invented the thrash sound, continued by bands like Metallica and Slayer in the 80's. Cradle of Filth and Sum 41 are two more very popular bands (with very different fanbases) who are clearly and admittedly influenced by Maiden.

Maiden rocked, lyrically they were artists, the sound was amazing. My favorite album was the first one with the original singer, he wasn't as good as Dickinson, but somehow the album chemistry was better--"Running Free" was my own personal teen age anthem.

Your friends who say they sucked are simply followers--they wouldn't know good metal if it crawled up and bit them on the ass, but since whatever is popular today is what they will hail, you must forgive them.

My favorite band and music of all time, while I totally realize thier weaknesses and crappy lyrical ability, with the exception of one album, was Black Sabbath, Ozzy days. Dio was good here too. I hated Sabbath after these two. The overall effect of Sabbath music was hypnotic and Gothic, they are true Goth music, if anyone today could know the difference. War Pigs was my favorite tune, but Masters of reality was thier best album together. Ozzy and rhoads were my main listening material in high school.

Having said that, I find Ozzy to be an ass. Also, I am persuaded that the Crown financed Sabbath, Maiden, the Beatles, and Zeppelin's initial emergance here, to subvert our youth. Isn't that crazy?
