First off, Husker Du was a revolutionary band. They exploded the limits of what hardcore punk could be. Before them, much of it was just furiously-played punk and shouted rantings from a lead singer. Along with R.E.M., the most important figures of the 80s alternative scene.
Secondly, all bands that became popular after 1996 suck? Wow, how original.

HAHAHA!! that's fucking great! i'll have to agree though. Weezer fucking sucks, and doesn't reall fit in with a lot of the other stuff you have there. Plus weezer is no where near good enough to be #1 on any list of any sort.

Well here are my favourite 15 (at them moment, and in no particular order) Cradle of Filth - Midian Cradle of Filth - Cruelty and the Beast Cradle of Filth - Bitter Suites to Succubi Anathema - Eternity Anathema - Resonance Marilyn Manson - Holy Wood Muse - Origin of Symmetry Placebo - Black Market Music Placebo - Placebo Tool - Lateralus Nine inch Nails - The Fragile Sick of it All - Scratch the Surface Lacuna Coil - Lacuna Coil Sinergy - Suicide by my Side Alas - Absolute Purity 15 is les than half of my favourites however  One album I shall always love - for the music, lyrics and memories.... Oasis - What's The Story Morning Glory?
