Top band of the 90's
No contest at all!!!
The Smashing Pumpkins are undoubtablty the best thing since the beatles.
I used to rate marilyn manson very highly but I have grown very weary of his shit and i see Brian Warner as being an asshole who uses ppl... as for everything else, I'd give System of a Down a tiny bit of credit for being different although i dont like them that much.
Also KoRn has to be in the list as half of this shitty stuff we call rock today wouldn't be here if it wern't for KoRn... And they never seem to do it half as good as KoRn dispite being simplisting it is groovey...
But yes... Most definatly The smashing Pumpkins are the best... I wish they didn't have to break up but maybe thats a good thing as all these fake rockers would know of them now...
mike
P.S. yeah i'd rate radiohead in there 2 although the quaitly of their music is deterorating now

Re: Top band of the 90's
ok system of a down will carry what little traces of individulaity survive in todays music and they will be the one band responsible for thr proliferation of music with an edge that is intelligent provacative and ironic...i remeber the first time i saw white zombie/// rob and the band were on mtv at the exact moment i was flipping past it... i would puaes occasionaly if they were showing halfnaked chicks getting felt up on the dance floor, otherwise i've always felt betrayed by mtv and dont watch it (it sux)he was doing "thunderkiss 65" (yeah!) and i thought here is a fucking freak!!! then it occurred to me that he was the laast of a dieing breed of true rockers... "we were the first band to vomit in the park and find the distance to the stage too far" <thats what it was all about.... zombie should get mention for what they contributed... and
no - shit guyS, seriously - WHO THE FUCKKKKKK IS RADIOHEADDDDDD!????!!!??!

Re: Top band of the 90's
Phish and Radiohead are that the top of my list. They have such a different sound, and great technique. I like a lot of the other bands listed, but to me they are just a less-than-stale variation of what has already been done.

Re: Top band of the 90's
Yeah, most of the bands listed are ok, like a 5 out of 10 rating so I'll just add some that I prefer. 1.ZZ Top (They've been together for 30 years and still have all original members!) 2.Ramones (Yes, The Ramones are 90's as well as 70's and 80's) 3.Smashing Pumpkins (All the albums are good.) 4.At The Drive In (Damn they're like RATM in the early days!) 5.Rage Against The Machine (First two albums before they got too poprock) And in my honest opinion these bands are pathetic/awful/bullshit 1.Slipknot (Bad songs) 2.Korn 3.Staind (Ooh, ANOTHER angst ridden band!) 4.Papa Roach (Bah, this band's songs are awful) 5.Blink 182 (Poprock or the common name Popular Rock) 6.Sum 41 (Poser's of Blink 182 and they're poprock too) 7.Marilyn Manson (Heh, goth) 8.Orgy (Bad cover of my favorite New Order song, very bad) Ok, let the flames begin...

Uh huh You, sir, are a complete idiot. Rage Against The Machine NEVER turned into Poprock. True, the first 2 albums are better, but HOW DARE YOU TALK SHIT ABOUT RAGE!!! I would have to say that Slipknot, korn, and Orgy don't belong on the list of crap. The Early korn kicked serious ass, Slipknot still kicks ass (they haven't sold out. No, it's true, they haven't sold out) Also, I heard the original vers. of Blue Monday, and I thought it sucked. The Orgy vers. is better. My opinion of RadioHead: Too soft and boring. I'm one those people who prefer my music to be firey, full of energy, fast, hardcore. I don't like slow shit. But hey, that's just me. Ciao!

Re: Top band of the 90's
And another thing:
People call greenday "MTV punk" HORSESHIT, MOFOS! Anyone ever hear any of their early stuff from when they hadn't supposedly sold out? Anyone see them live in Berkeley in 1990? I did. You all disgrace alternative music by bashing stuff like that. And a word to all you Rage haters: grow a cock and call me in the morning. Rage brought *gasp* a meaning back to rock. They said more on Battle of L.A. than most bands say in a career. Out.

I'm going to have to say Nirvana was an excellent choice... I'm going to have to say I dislike weezer for two reasons
1. their arrogance 2. I just can't enjoy their music on as many levels as I would with a band like Phish

KoRn would have made that list also, they pretty much started the nu-metal genre. Its hard to look past a lot of other bands too, but as for making an impact, KoRn is big.

Re: Top band of the 90's
I agree Slipknot is definitly what is wrong with today's music. The band that is "Cool To Like Because They Are So Underground" really gets old. Face it, IOWA was a very very lame album. They had a few catchy songs earlier but only a few.
They're main cult following is the side effect awarded to liking them. People think they are "hardcore" by wearing a slipknot shirt. I am sure this is not what slipknot had in mind but lets not give them a fucking award for having a cool name and wearing nice masks.
On a seperate note, I wont name the top 10 because that gets a little too picky, but on that list Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, and Red Hot Chili Peppers definitly must go.
Even look now, Classic Rock radiostations have begun playing earlier songs by these three bands. They are one of the few bands of the 90's that will survive and be looked back on by the generations.
In 35 years will anyone be listenning to Rage Against the Machine and Beastie Boys as "Classics"? I dont think so. I personally like Rage a whole lot but they arent classic material. Same with slipknot and napalm death or whatever bands you've been speaking of. That would be like in the 80's to say Mr. Mister was one of the top 10 greatest bands because he had that 1 or 2 hella good song. Its bull. Underground followings of a particular taste in music to not justify reward...

I was too lazy to read both pages so here is my list:
Nirvana Rage Against the Machine System of a Down Radiohead Smashing Pumpkins Staind Papa Roach Korn Marilyn Manson A Perfect Circle Deftones Coldplay Linkin Park Mindless Self Indulgence
Notice that I didn't add such bands as Red Hot Chili Peppers and Tool because they came before 1990. My list is formed by the impact and difference in their music compared to the general definition of Rock and Roll.

Re: Top band of the 90's
My friend just asked me "Where the hell is Mudvayne???" Here is the conversation so I don't have to retype it for those who think these bands deserve slots:
X m3ntaL X says: can i ask you something? X m3ntaL X says: WHERE THE HELL IS MUDVAYNE X m3ntaL X says: .... Anarchy476 says: i dont care how great mudvayne is, they never made an impact Anarchy476 says: at least not in my eyes X m3ntaL X says: well you suck X m3ntaL X says: lol Anarchy476 says: they never impacted or redifined anything in rock and roll Anarchy476 says: same with slipknot Anarchy476 says: and a lot of other bands like that X m3ntaL X says: they made a impact Anarchy476 says: i put bands like deftones and system because of their unique lyrics and singing techniques X m3ntaL X says: mudvayne Anarchy476 says: and nirvana and rage for the impacts in music industry Anarchy476 says: what did they impact? Anarchy476 says: the fear in childrens eyes? X m3ntaL X says: nobody has had face paint since fucking kiss X m3ntaL X says: lol Anarchy476 says: set bedtimes for children under 12? X m3ntaL X says: LOL Anarchy476 says: worry in parents? X m3ntaL X says: yeah see Anarchy476 says: the increasing level in psychiatry? Anarchy476 says: lol X m3ntaL X says: suicide attempts Anarchy476 says: exactly Anarchy476 says: lol Anarchy476 says: besides, telling everyone they are bad motherfuckers and telling people to kill everyone and then themselves isnt really impacting Anarchy476 says: just funny Anarchy476 says: lol X m3ntaL X says: you dont see videos like theirs on tv X m3ntaL X says: hell you dont even see theirs X m3ntaL X says: lol Anarchy476 says: lol X m3ntaL X says: have you seen a bass player like RYKNOW play the way he does X m3ntaL X says: im sure there music is pretty basic X m3ntaL X says: the music X m3ntaL X says: the lyrics X m3ntaL X says: are what make the songs sound crazy X m3ntaL X says: take the lyrics out and you got yourself a regular song X m3ntaL X says: well X m3ntaL X says: somewhat Anarchy476 says: when they amazing effect and revolutionize the music world, ill ad em okay?
Too sum it up, I like bands like Slipknot and Mudvayne. I really do. But until the day comes that they are put in the hall of fame or in my eyes deserve a slot in the hall of fame, they will continue to be "just another 'kill me' band."

yes, yes, yes, i love the truth of your words. TOOL is the greatest band in music today. their pure technical skill is like a symphony, and the underlying message of maynard's masterful lyrics caress my soul like the gentle hand of god himself... um what was i saying... yea um... so anyway, TOOL rocks.

Re: Top band of the 90's
Are you a bunch of idiots? Slipknot! If you evan read the subject of this bulliten you would see that it is about what 90's bands will be remembered in 30 years. And only one person even mentioned Sublime! They where not huge when they where around but I can tell you they are the greatest, most original band of the 90's and the recognition they deserve as a truely great band will come to them in time, as is has with most of the greats. Also, the Smashing Pumpkins where a really great, tight, original group who also will be remembered, but they where not as good as Sublime. As for nu metal and everything else on Mtv, it is all crap. I turned on Mtv the other day and say motherfucking wrestling! Mtv is todays standard for the music scene and they almost never even play music! and when they do it is corprate shit. Music is going downhill so fast that anything current which is "popular" is crap
