is "punk" dead
I feel that for the majority punk as a state of mind is almost dead. There arent many "punks" or people left who think like the music of crass or political bands like them tryed to inspire.

You're new to the board, so I don't completely hate you.
Mods, for the love of god, close all new "punk" threads!

Re: is "punk" dead
You realize that punk doesn't have to be political right?
Like pretty much of all the early New York scene?

Re: is "punk" dead
Correct me if I'm wrong (and I'm sure someone will, even if I'm right), but the whole point of the punk movement in the 70s was to put out some music that was so obnoxious and completely different from everything before that it would shake people out of the saccharine disco/lounge/etc that was everywhere. So how can something that was founded in order to be different from everything before still really exist 30 years later? I mean, obviously the musical influences are everywhere, but the actual ethos of the whole thing was about breaking the rules, and now there are so many friggin' rules about what makes you a proper punk that it's silly.
Not that I'm really into such things, but an outsider's perspective can be useful...

Re: is "punk" dead
No, your kinda right. It was definetly about just being obnoxious and pissing people off for some people. For some it was about trying to push social change. For others it was just to have fun. For some it was an art experiment. It was so many different things to so many different people.
It kinda suck now that so many bands (i.e. Anti-Flag) are so safe and nice now and love to follow all those punk rules.

Re: is "punk" dead
Well children, I think we are all getting a bit silly and thinking in far too deep than we need to, when we could just sit back and enjoy the music. Or is that too complicated?
