Why exactly is weed illegal?

This puzzles me. Why is such a reletively harmless substance illegal when so many more things that are legal are MUCH worse for you and sometimes more disorienting (ie. alcohol). I thought I heard something about a couple of FBI jackasses in the 1930's spouting some bullshit propaganda about marijuana because they had to make something illegal to keep their jobs. Am I fairly close to correct? Truly it is a strange world we live in eh.

its illegal for one reason, the goverment cant cash in on it. see they cant really regulate its sell since anyone can grow pot very easily. wich means they wont collect the tax on it when you grow it instead of buying it at wal-mart.

And yes legal drugs can be worse than pot. I have never had thoughts of holding someone up at gunpoint for a lil weed, but there hasnt been a time where i havent went to the pharmacy section of a store and had serious thoughts of robbing it to get my fix.

BUT brewing beer is a long exsppensive process and growing tabacco requires certain climate wich needs to be way more exact than the climate for pot to grow in.

You can grow tobacco indoors, and I don't know about beer, but you can make people in prison make liquor out of potatoes. So, if you have access to the little prisoners have access to, then you can make liquor.

Ive actually read the answer to this somewhere. I do not think it has anything to do with being able to tax it. I bet the only reason it STILL is illegal is because a long time ago they pretended it was like poison and made you go insane. Just download "Reefer Madness" and you'll see. Um... what I want to know is why it is still thought of as so bad by so many. Is it just because of the idiocy of the general public?

i dont think there was a FBI untill the early 50s i think hoover started it i duno the cross dresser homo dude i think but no ive heard that its illegal because DuPont came out with the nylon rope and they had mucho cloudt so they used the fact that people get high to make the plant illegal so there would be no competition with hemp rope, think about that, Why is hemp illegal? im pretty sure this is true but i duno it could be another one of those theories i duno

the movie grass explains it....i think its easy to understand....it starts in the early 1900's and ends up in the year 2000(i think) talking bout all the different laws, and stuff like that. its on IFC and Sundance every now and then

Uh.. Do u US�s have any idea of what the fuck is going around in the rest of the world, or a u just in denial phase. The reason why weed remains illegal, is that a proposition for the legality, wouldnt get many votes, most places- cuz of the myths etc. In Holland weed is legal, by the coffeshop method and the government cash on it, so thats no problem and now the statistics of smokers have lowered, since the legality.
Everybody who has a bit of sanity, know that tobacco, alcohol, amphetamines are more unhealthy thatn weed.

i saw this anti-drug commercial where these 2 kids are talking about some stupid stuff. Then couple seconds later, it shows one of the kids hitting the bong, and the other kid found a gun, said something like "hey dude check this out" all of a sudden you hear a gunshot. After that it said something like; Pot, It distores reality or something like that. It really piss me off after that.

also hemp has thousands of industrial use's as it grow alot faster than cotton, alot of industries would have to compete with hemp and most probably lose-out.

Also governments love to think there totaly right on all their laws. It is exactly the same as prohobition in America except they just won't admit it this time. Even though the problem is a million times worse.

When it was made illegal in the first place racism had a part to play especailly in America. Anyone read about the crack-epidemics in alot of black and ethnic minority areas directly linked to the contra's and the C.I.A?
