Do the poppy seeds on bread rolls etc still contain traces of opium?

I saw a documentry on people who were addicted to eating large quantities of these seeds.

IF there was opium still present in the seeds how would one go about extracting the opium, as i have access to 25kg bags of the stuff!

The amount of opium alkaloids in poppy seeds are so small that you would need an enormous amount to extract a yeild sufficient to get high. Your best bet is to buy some papavera sonifferum seeds and plant them. Some people even debate if there is any opium in any quantities at all in the poppy seeds.

It's not that they contain opium, but that they contain the same metabolites as opium.

From Erowid's Drug Testing Vault: 1 Poppy seeds: Poppy seeds, usually on breads, contain traces of morphine, and lead to positives for opiates. According to Dr. Grow, eating a pastry filled with poppy seeds will bring results showing that you are a *high level* opiate user. Harold Crossley, a nationally known chemical dependency expert, said you would have to eat 100 poppy seed bagels to score a positive on a drug test. When taken into account that very few poppy seeds are sprinkled on bagels, you can see that poppy seeds from a hundred poppy seed bagels will easily fill a single large pastry. Purim cookies, a Jewish food known as Hamantashen, may have five to six tablespoons of poppy seeds. A couple Purim cookies may cause a positive test. Poppy seeds can be distinguished from illicit drugs on the GC/MS test. Although poppy seeds have the same metabolites as opium, these metabolites are shown to have different patterns when viewed with the GC/MS.

Grow those seeds! I got a text on TOTSE in the drugs section on how to grow it...

if he has acess to 25kg thats 55 pounds of seeds!! that is plenty for an extraction! i believe its done by boiling the seeds with lemon juice or somethibg look on erowid for reports with poppy tea its in there somewhere.

Hmm thanks Meta thats quite interesting, I mite try an extraction. Do you think distilation would work and provide a more concentrated end product?

Okay, extracting opiate metabolites from poppy seeds is not going to be psychoactive.
Metabolites are the byproduct of consuming a drug, not the drug itself. I would hate to see someone waste their time and money extracting metabolites from poppy seeds, and getting an end product that is about as psychoactively potent as OTC tylenol. Try it if you want, but I have warned you against it.

Yeah i do a bit of bakery work. But the time or money isnt an issue, just curious if its worth having a shot at and would the end result be a positive one or a futile attempt to do the impossible.
No im not a 16 year old who is just trying to get fucked up on things in the cupboard, i was thinking something lets say on a larger scale. Opium is as rare as rocking horse shit where im from, and i couldnt be stuffed growing it as i dont have anywhere close by to get a decent plot happening.
I purchase pounds of hydro on a weekly basis from across the border and not even they can supply any opium.
The documentry on people addicted to eating the seeds i have access to just got me thinking if the extraction was viable.
Thanks for the input, i think i will give it a miss if im not garanteed a decent profit to expense ratio.
