huffing most things is all about the short, quick, intense, i-can't-get-real-drugs high.
[well, not in the case of nitrous or ether]

i have only read bad things about freon.
[i've read some erowid expiriences]

Freon is a really dangerous thing to huff cause it can easily stop your heart. Most likely to do if from a garbage bag probably because youl pass out with it on your mouth. Air conditionrers probably have dirty freon to. I wouldn't do it. Might as well get nitrous oxide if your going to huff anything.

I dont condone huffing as it is very dangerous, BUT to say it's not a drug or that it is a shitee drug is a bold statement. When i was younger i use to huff spray paint and areo duster, i loved the high. Ill tell you what huffing is the most intense powerfull high i have ever felt. But i then i found out how bad it was, and stopped imeaditaley. Point being it may be bad for you but that doesnt mean it sucks, all users know they are trading something to get high, wether it be brain cells, sleep, or health while not on the drug.

Freon isn't a drug. Drugs work chemically to alter brain or body functions. Freon works physically to deny your lungs oxygen.

You could at least huff something cheaper...

I have a friend who used to huff duster, and you usually don't notice anything wrong with her, but after like 2 drinks you really notice a difference in her speech and thinking in general. That shit will fuck up your brain badly.

Only a bunch of fuckheads would ever huff. (or very young children)

That shit will fuck your brain up. Breathing in any foreign gas will mess with your body somehow (including pure oxygen)

Hell, lots of drug dealers don't even USE the drugs they make.

there is still a difference between "good" drugs and "bad" drugs.

Namely the good ones don't take over your life and are interesting amazing experiences.

And the bad ones make you a total retarded fuck-up

I guess I want to jump into this fray.

[I'm getting a pre-deja vu from this: there was a like discussion regarding the meaning/definition of virgin with pretty pinay a while back at Sex...]

A word, in this case 'drug' is as ound or symbol that represents a concept, which is known as its definition.

This concept must be agreed upon by at least a majority for it to have any use.

If nobody agreed on a definition of a word it would become useless.

So, we have this definition that the majority agrees upon, but you can't expect everybody to remember every definition so we invest an organization with the responability of keeping, as it were, the definition.

These insttutions keep the definitions in a large tome, which we call a dictionary.

So these dictionaries are the holders of the sacred definitions which bestows meaning onto each word and thus by agreement we can have a conversation in which all parties involved have a statistically good chance of understanding one another.

So, should there ever be a dispute over the exact definition of a word, we bust out with the Dic-tionary ;-).

Here today we have such a dispute over the definition of 'drug'. Specifically if Freon is a drug.

On one side it Theta [I use you becaude you provided a definition, sort of what a drug is which was:

Freon isn't a drug. Drugs work chemically to alter brain or body functions. Freon works physically to deny your lungs oxygen.

Ok, by that definition , freon it not a drug.

Ah, but how close does Theta's definition match that which resides in the dictionary?

Let's see; according the Cambridge Dictionary, there are two definitions for Drug. One is for medical [drugs], the other is for Drugs -(ILLEGAL SUBSTANCE).

That definion is as follows:

noun [C]
any natural or artificially made chemical which is taken for pleasure, to improve someone's performance of an activity, or because a person cannot stop using it.

But then isn't this whole thing kinda moot? Freon [AKA R-12] was banned in 1994 or 1995, and you can only get it if you are licensed.

Well, that's my 89 cents worth

Betcha all can't wait until Alchemy's gone back to her mom and I'm back to my old sourpuss self, huh?

Is that a Republican dictionary or something? It makes it sound like Illegal drugs and recreational drugs are the same thing. Can't medical drugs be illegal, and vice versa?

Anyhow, as for this definition: Freon is technically (by a skewed "official" definition) a drug. Strangely enough, it's neither medical or particularly illegal. That dictionary's about as fucked up as those huffers...

Ah! But I am yet redeemed!

You see, Meta, your own logic holds a gap. A dictionary may present the proper definition, but the majority must first choose the proper dictionary.

Allow me to illustrate -

drug (n.)

1.
a) A substance used in the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of a disease or as a component of a medication.
b) Such a substance as recognized or defined by the U.S. Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.

2. A chemical substance, such as a narcotic or hallucinogen, that affects the central nervous system, causing changes in behavior and often addiction.

2. [Obsolete] A chemical or dye.

So sayeth The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition.

I fail to see how Freon qualifies...

I do, however, think that we can safely add a definition to the term "dumbass"

- one who huffs industrial chemicals to obtain a cheap "high"

refrigerant R-12 is what your friend is doing.AN it is stupid, it give u a false feeling of high cause it stop your blood from transporting oxygen to your brain an the rest of your body. The real messed up thing about doing r-12 is that it never leave your body naturally it takes up space in your lungs, making it harder for you to breathe. so the only high u get is your brain suffocating.

Oh I know, I agree with you.

It was the Cambridge dictionary.. Isn't that the UK's biggie? [like Webster's is to us?]

I think Webster's is the more used, and so would be the 'keeper of the definition'.

I think you know they are, too.

What's the matter, didn't Webster's have a definition that you could use?;-)

And that's why you used the American Heritage?

[That's why I went to and used the Cambridge version. I wasn't going o go through all of those logical steps only to have something as stupid as a dictionary stop me ;-)

You got to be able to find "facts" to back up whatever your position is as you need them.

{Besides: I was feeling a bit contrary and ornery.}

Did you not read my earlier post saying that only a tech - a licensed one at that- can get and use R-12: it's been all but banned?

If so, what part didn't you understand?
