i've had this thing in my room for a years now, i filled it with colored sand when i was younger, but only recently have i noticed how it looks great for making into a bong.

it is 15" tall and 2 3/4" wide at the bottom. it is made of clear plastic.

i have a 3" connected metal stem and bowl from a small bong that i have, but i think that i want a longer stem because then i could put the bowl higher up on this plastic thing and be able to put more water in this homemade bong.

any suggestions on how to make a good stem and bowl? or should i use the short 3" stem and bowl? also tell me if u have any other suggestions for making this into a bong.

Well, if its plastic, you dont wanna make a bong out of it. Unless you like getting high off of inhaled plastic residue fumes? Do you like doing that?

i dont think that you really understand. the bowl and stem will not be plastic. there will be no fumes if the bowl and stem are not plastic.

ok here is what you have to do first poke a hole 3-4 inches up the "bong", if you can get a glass insert get one, there are like 5bucks if not make due with clear tubeing make sure you have a good tight fit with silicone calk works well smells bad for a while. then just fill er up and drop your stem in doesent matter how long it is. and you have your own home made bong. note. use a nail heated under a flame untill red hot to melt the hole. happy smoking

Instead of using a heated nail you can just use a soldering iron, it's quicker and you don't need to keep reheating it.

If the smoke from the bong if hot enough to melt plastic what is the purpose of the bong?

Anyways... Jab a hole into the thing near the bottom with a pen or what have you. Take the hollowed out body of one of those pens that you can unscrew and put it through the hole. Take some tin foil and heat it with a lighter to make it safer to smoke on. Put it on your pen and poke holes in it. Perfect for smoking nugs!

i dont really think that the smoke alone will melt the interior plastic of the bong, and this is definately not true when i would use water in this baby. the purpose of the bong? well with what i just said i think you can figure out the purpose of the bong

well if you wanna make that thing work real nice , you could go down to your local "hemp shop" , and probably buy a nice glass bowl and stem for maybe 30$ canadian, then just put a hole about 1/4 of the way up the bong and place it in. (since theres non of that slipery plastic inside the hole where the stemn slides in , you cant use the "pull bowl" system , so you outa make a shotgun hole as well somewhere.)

anyone else have any tips for making homemade bongs?

use a bowl and a stem.

the sockets from a socket wrench will work well for a bowl, if you put a screen in them.

[you can use a cut piece of aluminum can with holes poked in it for the screen]

would it be safe to use a metal bowl attatched to a 3" stem and then extend that 3" metal stem by attatching a plastic pen body tube? will the smoke pick up bad things from the plastic part of the stem? and, if it does, would the bad things be filtered out by the bong water?

edit: and, if i went to a hardware store and bought a small copper pipe or soemthing like that, would copper be a bad metal for the stem and possibly the bowl?

I have almost the same thing as what Heart Attack is talking about. It works finre for me and I made the stem out of ahollowed out pic pen and a piece of replacement screen for a window. It gets me high and that is all that matters to me.

i've heard that copper is bad to smoke out of. something about copper oxide...

i've smoked out of copper, i didn't die.

the pen extension should be fine [especially if the pen part is under the waterline]

UPDATE: i have made the thing into a bong. tell me what you think of it. i filled the small bowl of the bong with what i had left from a diff. bowl i didnt finish yesterday and it gave me a HUGE hit - all of the weed in it burned with my huge drag - it was amazing and i am feeling high from that one hit (well, not really high or stoned) but this thing is amazing. now only if it had a little bigger bowl and a more permanent form of sealing stuff. any suggestions?

to make the bong, i used the plastic thing, a knife, a bic pen shaft, a metal tip of a gel roll pen, and chewed-by-me gum.

i found something out the hard way while using it. if i take a hit, and there is still smoke in the chamber, and i cover the mouth part, water then goes up the stem and through the bowl! because of the air (smoke) pressure displacing the water this makes sense now, but is there a way to counter-act this and still not lose (much) smoke while i am not hitting it (besides for passing it to someone else)?

and what benefits would making a carb hole give my bong? and where on the bong should i put the carb?
