effects of junk on the brain?
What exactly do opiates do to your level of intelligance? Like when i get high i feel as smart as normal, but i noticed that i have terrible typing and spelling skills. Anyways socially when on opiates i feel like myself i have gone through calculus and made a B high eveyday. BUT times like now when im just ending a kick and most likely for the next month, i find it harder to articulate ideas and talk to people. I also find it harder to concentrate on reading things. Like i have to exercise my brain to get it use to not being doped up. Anyways, ya i was just wondering if someone could answer my question.

Re: effects of junk on the brain?
yea i was wondering something similar my question is it doesnt seem like there are any negative side effects besides the addiction part and the obvious problems with injection but if one uses once or twice a month like oxy and never more nasally they would never really have any health problems would they?

Re: effects of junk on the brain?
Here is something I came across the other day. You might be as smart as normal.
It's late and I don't feel like doing a lot of reading right now, but I seem to recall that opioids increase dopamine levels through their action on opioid receptors. If that's the case, then it would make sense for you to have a little cognitive trouble when you stop using after a few days. You're probably experiencing a "rebound" affect and having lower than normal dopamine levels. In my experience low dopamine levels equals more difficulty thinking. For a while I took a medication that decreased dopamine levels. I stopped taking it because it made me feel stupid. It was harder to think. I can't dig up the study right now, but there was one done on Muslim smokers who abstained for Ramadan. Nicotine is an MAOI selective to subtype B, which long story short, means that it increases dopamine levels in the brain. Anyway, in the study that found that when the smokers were abstaining they did more poorly on the CARROT (something about random card arrangement and sorting test) assessment than when they smoked. The CARROT tests attention span and goal directed behavior, if I recall correctly. So, another example of low dopamine levels = not as smart.
To sum up, you're probably not the affects of opioids on your cognition.

Re: effects of junk on the brain?
Kicking opiates often causes an emotional flatline, which I believe may be what you are refering to Sub. The levels of dopamine and endorphins are produced in smaller amounts. Therefore your brains natural reward system is basicaly shutdown, causing dysphoria, lack of concentration, and numerous other short term psychological conditions. After a month or so, your sytem will balance out and hormone, and chemical messenger levels will return to normal. In my opinion, there are no real physical health problems with chronic use of opiates, other than addiction, and damage to nasal passages and veins. Oh yeah, tooth decay might be a problem due to the fact that opiates impede the production of saliva, causing the mouth to dry out and microbes to attack the teeth and gums. I don't know if I have helped clear up anything or not, but I tried. Good luck with kicking.

Re: effects of junk on the brain?
I don't know what to tell you about your spelling, but the typing problem is a matter of loss of coordination; same reason that there is thast label that says 'Do not operate heavy machinery or vehicles' [or what ever it is].
as for the trouble after you kick, well your brain hasn't returned to a normal pre-opiate state, so it's natural that you'd be slower for a while.
