can phosphoric acid and iodine be used in place of rp/i/e reaction,if so how good are results and what are ratios.

I once has some interesting thoughts and dreams about something similar.
I ended up with the conclusion that phosphoric acid probably wont work, but Hypophosphorus Acid just might.
Nothing more than a tidbit to push you in the right direction. Rhodium might have some information you would like. Try downloading their chem archives, its a big one (10 MB), bit I found lots of interesting reading material there.

hypo works, it is just as illegal as red p. phosphoric acid won't work.
