Re: Drug Induced Skitzo
www.mentalhealth.com/dis1/p21-ps01.html quote: Substance/general medical condition exclusion: The disturbance is not due to the direct physiological effects of a substance (e.g., a drug of abuse, a medication) or a general medical condition.
If you were to see a mental health professional about schizophrenic symptoms, they would probably tell you to quit smoking pot. As to whether pot might cause schizophenia, I would say that it wouldn't so much cause it as bring out underlying tendencies that were already there.

Re: Drug Induced Skitzo
I've seen amphetamines (and MDMA) bring out craziness in a big, scary way. Hallucinogens do so in an even bigger scarier way. Pot doesn't seem to be as much of a problem. Typically with pot the person has a better chance to tell himself that the voices and delusions are irrational, not real. So while amphetamines and hallucinogens would be hellish, pot simply has a problem of bringing about transitory panic attacks. Coke and horse don't seem to bring about problems, although my data is rather limited. We all have differing chemisties and one type of schizophrenia really isn't like another. All I know about is the paranoid kind. Your mileage may vary.

Re: Drug Induced Skitzo
As I understand it, the only abusive drugs that cause perminant schizophrenia is extremely heavy use of amphetamines or cocaine. Other than that I'd say most hallucinogens cause schizo behavior. I've never experienced anything like that with weed besides paranoia.
