now, SOMEONE I KNOW has about 40 or so marijuana plants growing in a forest near his/her place of residence. he/she didnt plant them, but they are growing nicely. he/she knows that wild marijuana usually isnt potent enough to smoke, but does have some THC. he/she would like to extract the THC by making hash using the "dissolve weed in alcohol, strain, and evaporate" method. however, this person i know may have trouble obtaining 100% pure isopropyl alcohol or methanol. he/she would like to know if acetone can be substituted as the solvent, and if it would still be safe to use.

also, what tips for cultivation would be useful to this person i know?

If He/she can get acetone they surely can get methanol or at least dentured alcohol

it'll be okay if you/her/he/it stops being really paranoid/afraid and decides who he/she is. (and tells me/I/us where his/her/its "wild" plants are...)

Weed not potent enough when growing in wild? WTF! I have never heard that in my life and can't see why it would make sense. Someone please explain this to me.

6C: in some places marijuana plants grow wild and gangly, noone put them there, theyve been there for years. not being cared for has just made them wild 'ragweed' and hardly worth smoking.

you should use methanol, or so ive been told, hopefully one day ill try this method myself. acetone should be your very last option, and id recommend using butane before acetone, but some may not agree. personally, ive seen great results with this very butane method, and not so good reslts with alcohol extractions. other people have had opposite results. find the one you like, and give it a shot.

Look back a bit in this topic and there is a long thread by me called Hash and honey oil.It has all the info youd need in it.

Acetone disolves THC extremely well, but I wouldn't recomend it for making hash and/or oil. Butane is DEFINATELY the way to go. No doubt about it.

and thanks for all the info guys. i MIGHT try the butane method, but id like to dry the dissolving method as well. i have 100% pure acetone, why would you recommend against using that? would it be poisonous in any way?

also, i was not able to find pure isopropanol. where can i get methanol? is it sold as any product in, say, hardware stores?

as far as why i wouldnt use acetone, its just personal preferance. ive tried it with acetone a few times, and got less than desirable results. as i said before, some people may not agree with this, and highly recommend acetone, its just a matter of preferance based on my experiences. i suggest that you try a few different things, but this may not be an option since the weed you found likely has very little thc in it. just find a method you like, and give it a shot. you didnt put anything (time or $$) into growing this weed, so anything you get is bonus. the shitty part is, that if there is that little thc in it you may not get much and blame it on the method you chose, when in fact it could be that there just wasnt much thc in the plants to begin with. you may perform the extraction perfectly, but not get the results you disire because the plants were just not potent enough.

Use gasoline and lead.
