A dying breed?
Maybe this is just where i live but, lately (the past few years) I'm seeing more and more people that do drugs (usually weed or whatever pills football players can scrap together) for reasons i dont agree with:
getting laid, cuz its cool, recognition, depression, or like most people they'll do it to get fucked up and quit as soon as they're out of college.
Now these kinds of people have been around ever since i opened up to mind altering chemicals many years ago... but lately its out of fuckin control.
Rarely anymore do i meet a person who uses drugs to explore, or expand their minds. Mainly i got beef with potheads who are quite hipocritical with their "man, they should really try weed." bullshit while at the same time they are appauled at the fact that i do more drugs than just weed. I'm tired of these pussy druggies i guess.
My entire life ive known only three people who have TOTALLY been cool when using drugs and the mentality they have about them. But sadly at the moment they are all in either jail or rehab. sucks. For these types of people i will use the word "drug-user"... now are "drug-users" a dying breed? if so, i pity those who are like me and have to live, breathe, and get high around them. may the drugs have mercy on your souls...

Re: A dying breed?
i started (weed) for the same reasons and that's the number one reason i'm getting Acid as soon as a good batch comes into the city of brotherly love. I have noticed that the amount of poseurs is very high, and i know one (or two) dealer that isn't one.
but a lot of drugs really need a group expirience, and i find that i can't really get the right atmosphere because i'm afraid of getting beat (i'm so calm when i smoke, my friends get hyped up) or my friends are acting gay (one time we're chillin in my friend's basement with his neighbor who didn't smoke that night, but this kid was calling both me and his neighbor gay, stupid, and other minor insults and getting a kick out of it. basicially he was being ignorant and it pissed me off which ruined my trip.

I feel that. It really sucks that other people go and fuck it up for us.

Re: A dying breed?
i cant really disagree with you, but im out of the social loop anymore, by choice i might add. but thats off topic...
im wondering what you get out of getting high every time you do it? im not saying that you cant learn, but with the frequency that i get high (on grass) it cant always be a spiritual journey. getting high and acting silly when waling through the store isnt exactly an awakening. ive done alot of the drugs that i liked, mailny pot, acid, and shrooms. and how these three may be assiciated with spiritual experiences i cant say that every time i came back with some relvelation about myself or others. sometimes id come back with totally new perspectives, mainly about ego and social behaviors and subconscious shit, but not every singly time. if you want something special more often, you would use less.

Re: A dying breed?
i'm not really "silly" on weed... i'd say i have more of a feeling of whatthefuck and whythefuck...
i'm not really going for a spiritual awakening, but i'd say everytime i come back with a new perspective, or my perspective is slightly changed. i do limit how much i do it and try to reach the point where i'm clean until i do it again (i'd say an average of 2 weeks between times)
"if you want something special more often, you would use less. "- well, i'd agree, but i'd change one thing,
"if you want something special more often, change your environment more" though this changes the whole statement i think it's true, if you sit in the same dull environment then all you'll get is the whythefuck and not the whatthefuck
and not like i'm putting down the recreational use of drugs, but the attitudes described by joe are what i try to avoid when using

Re: A dying breed?
Everyone has their own reason for using drugs. You might have tried them out of peer presure, or one of the reasons you listed above, but to continue to use them, you usually get something out of the experiance. I agree with you, I don't smoke grass to explore the reaches of the universe, I smoke it because it makes me feel good. But you are right, it's wrong to use drugs to get laid or to be cool.
