Default What's with the Tweezers?

I was just wondering why I always see Americans in films using a pair of tweezers to hold the joint? What is this all about?

Any (sensible) answers appreciated.

Thanks, Ryan

Well the vast majority of Eoropeans and Aussies use a strip of cardboard or whatever that shit is used to package rolling papers. Thus, the last couple centimeters are empty. We here in the States roll our joints up to the brim with weed so we smoke our joints down till it is litterally all up in smoke. And that roach has cherry that will burn your fingertips naturally if you don't clip it.

being clever and daring enough to steal from a dentist who leaves you alone in an exam room for 30min intervals is a coming of age stoned rite of passage in the usa and so the resultant hemostats, intended to secure the no dribble bib around your neck are integrated into the illicit substance ingestion ritual.

and

where life is lived to the most excruciatingly on the edge extremes, those with the opportunity and mentality to steal peacock feathers off the forbidden (by threat of lockdown) peacocks at the local correctional facility, aka camp...in these elite realms of agressive delinquency, the hemostats are garnished with the contraband feathers,..

geez..I guess before the invent of the ic chip, laptop and abdominizer, americans just have a love affair with gadgetry of all assortments.

Maybe it was the guys who came up with the ic chips doing the r and d with those alligator clips and getting stoned allst the while...

.uh maybe it was the ingrained disdain for running out of pot and all those wasted roaches or burned fingers....like the nickel when pay-phone calls were 20ceents...twas a good idea that caught on.

What?? you guys don't go to the dentist and look forward to the day when you make the hemostats your own? go figure~

Actually it may be one of the last human-interaction based and encouranging, as well, implements to become more than remotely popular in this self-centered day and agehmmmmmmmmmm?????

I thought I was the only person that looked at the little clips on your bib when you go to the dentist.

So what do you do if you've lost your stainless steel tweezers and you're skinning up - would you leave room at the end and stick a roach in? or would you fashion a set of temporary tweezers? is there a set method for making temporary tweezers?

Good thread ryan - love the cross-atlantic exchange of smoking culture knowledge.

Well Damsterdam we either pinch what little bit of paper we can or let it burn out which is usually quick cause it is so reinous. But like a key-ring will work. A fork will work etc. Also we have these papers that come with a wire in it and as the joint burns down you can grasp the wire and bend it into a loop etc. and smoke it down to mere ashes. Simple but ingenious invention if you ask me!!

right - i finish work in 30 minutes - quick swim, and then its a pure weed roachless joint for Damsterdam.

i have a pair of tweezers in an old swiss army knife, BUT - i'm gonna go all survivalist and fashion something out of a paperclip...

You could also just put the roach in bowl and smoke it that way. Also two coins pressed together with the roach in between can work alright if you have nothing else to use.

i have heard of rolling papers with wires in them for when you're roaching. Usually, i just burn my fingers and smoke till it stops hurtin. We also, from time to time do something called the "screaming eagle" where we inhale the roach till whats left flies into your mouth. But these are really just for ammusement, not regular practise. But usually, i just use a bong.

In a bind two quarters (or any decent sized coins) work well. You just pinch the roach inbetween the two coins. I usually used hemostats though.
