Anyways, tonight at work a friend and i were discussing the chewing tobacco nicotine extraction and it got me thinking a little bit. Since i have a basic knowledge of chemistry i was wondering if it was possible to do an acid/base exctraction with nicotine using NaOH and HCl. Just curious.

Yes, bassify and extract into a non-polar, then do an acid base, it should be reasonably pure after that.

That's very well and good, but why would you want to extract nicotine? "recreational" dosages are quite small you know, (<20 mg), and...you know, you can just smoke. Nicotine isn't such a great drug.

I'm not planning on extracting nicotine any time soon, it was more a question of curiosity. maybe lace someone who deserves it's cigarettes with a lot of it. Or put it in the coffee of senile co-workers.

By the way, i made a typo in the above post. The typical dosage for nicotine is between .4 - 1.2 mg. Pretty fuckin small huh? Just imagine what 350mg would do to an eldery, non-smoking woman....
