Music
Can anyone reccomend some music to listen to while "tripping" or high? I have a few but I'm trying to make a compilation CD for the occasion. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Music
Velvet Acid Christ or Download (that's the name of the band). They make you feel like you're high even when you're not tripping =)

Re: Music
spiritualized "ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space" spacemen 3 "performance-live at the milkweg" the flaming lips "the soft bullettin" pink floyd "piper at the gates of dawn" or any syd barrett sly and the family stone if you want to buug out really hard on sounds this is what your looking for...trust me phish will ONLY sound good (maybe) if your tripping although if that's the kind of stuff yr into, well, this might be a little too much

Re: Music
Floyd is good. Grateful Dead is the shit. However, live Phish shows rock! You can go the other route and search for electronic music...jungle/trance/techno but I got tired of the sound very quickly. Perhaps it's b/c Plastikman's hometown is here and it was all so...so very trendy at the time. Aphrodite doesn't cut it for me either. That's just my opinion...don't jump down my throat plz! But ever since the Dead stopped touring, I turned to Phish [JB crew, initially ]. Now Phish isn't doing any shows and I itch to see another show. I'm not holding my breath though. Although I listen to a variety of music...Phish shows, Phish kids, and Phish lot will always remain in my heart. As well as Dead shows/lot [although they're two separate worlds]. This thread is leading to the "Rock and Roll" hall of fame forum. **got over the Dead not touring** **misses Phish tours** **still has her ticket stubs in her hand** Love, Dank.

Re: Music
i just had a thought - might some darkwave/hardcore/evil techno lead to a dark and foreboding trip? in my opinion, the scary yet good trips are worse than bad trips...giant bloody pigs with knives and nooses is not too cool...but maybe im wrong;keep the lights on;0

Re: Music
I only smoke pot and havent tried acid, but might someday. anyway i listen to a lot of music that sounds great stoned: Dead Kennedys, Sublime acoustic, the pixies, Common Rider, Bob Marley, Long Beach Dub Allstars, Joey Ramone, Ween, Dropkick Murphys, The Clash, US Bombs, Angelic Upstarts, The Cramps, Stiff Little Fingers, The Meteors and Flogging Molly. Music is pretty much my life... Its pretty cool to get real stoned and play a guitar or mess around with a drumset every once in a while

Re: Music
if your trippin I would go with Richie Hawtin (Plastik Man), prefrerably some of his older trippy shit.
otherwise if your rollin or just high, i would go with some hard, dark jungle... like soul-slinger or Dillinja

Re: Music
I'm going to list some here. They are all from the 60's. If you are willing to go back that far in musical time you will find that they are most exellent to listen to while tripping [remember: acid rock and psychedilic were terms given to music that was meant to be heard while tripping and/or music that helped recreate the psychedilic experience]. I've had countless hours of tripping pleasure from all of these. [Since Floyd goes without saying and has already been mentioned, I won't list it here].
Vanilla Fudge: Their first album and Renaissance are the best two, though any of their records are good to trip to.
Electric Prunes: Mass in F-Minor
Spooky Tooth: Ceremony, The Last Puff [this has a great psychedilic version of 'I'm the Walrus'. It can also be found on 'Best of Spooky Tooth]
Iron Butterfly: Inna-Godda-Da-Vida [The cliche acid song]
Argent: Nexus
The Rolling Stones: Their Satanic Majesties Request ['2000 Light Years from Home' and 'She's a Rainbow' are the best off this album]
The Doors: Anything by the Doors is good to trip to, but the first two albums and 'Absolutly Live' stand out.
Hendrix: This should also go without saying
Mothers of Invention: Any of the early recordings [this was Frank Zappa's first band].
Harry Partch: [though this guy isn't really 60's, let alone rock, he is never the less very good to trip to, though kind of hard to find.]
Dukes of Stratosphere: The 'Dukes' are really the members of XTC who did a couple of records under this name, but they really got down what is was that made psychedilic music psychedilic: They do it better than many 60's groups did.
King Crimson: First two albums are the best
Black Sabbath: Though not technically psychedilic, their first two albums are great while tripping
There are many more, but these are the best examples. If you decide to be bold enought to try any and decide you like, Ill be happy to offer up more.

Re: Music
Several of us has mentioned Pink Floyd. And when you mention floyd, DSOTM goes without saying.
Now for those who don't know all of Floyd: try Pipers at the Gates of Dawn, their first album. It's with Syd Barrett, not Gilmore [Gilmoure?]. It's like it's a different band. Syd was a f**king genius. Acid burn-out, but genius none the less.
