Yeah, you can snort ephedrine but personally, if I needed a pick me up, I'd definitely eat it.

well i do know that DXM doesnt work when you snort it. i have a friend who gave his friend like 500 mg of DXM powder and told him to eat it. well he didnt listen, and he emptied out the capsule and made 2 piles of it. one for him and one for his girlfriend. well he snorted it first and it didnt work at all, but 2 seconds after he snorted it he puked his fucking guts out forever. and i would want to just because powdered DXM is the worst thing ive ever tasted in my life. imagine that taste in the back of your throat for a long time. i shudder just thinking about it. so definatly eat the dxm .dont snort it.

since its hard to obtain pure ephedrine powder, would you be using ephedrine extractions made for meth synths, like ones that would remove the pill binders?

Ephedrine is not worth snorting because of its abundance so you could easily afford the extra mgs to eat to achieve the same snorted effect. Why you would need the extra few mins time quicker actions from snorting ephedrine is beyond me.

I dont think ephedrine has much recreational use but does however have incredable market potential as an additive to anything from resold and capsulized DXMs, phenethylamines, typtamines, etc... pill to modern energy drinks or concocksions, added to cut whatever the focus substance maybe and provide an underlying speedy effect. This comes into play illicitly in MDMA, which needs a speed booster to reach its full potential and can be rather quite like methamphetamine and much blander when not fueled by a small dose of a speedy drug stronger than caffine to enhance its "psychadelic" sensation properties.
